2006 530 XI rims suggestions.
Hey 5Post people,
I just picked up a 2006 530XI stick shift in titanium silver. I want to keep the stock 17" tires and swap out the rims with these but I don't know if they will fit. I know they aren't 18 19, or 20's. I prefer to keep the stock tires on the car. It has barely any miles on it. Check these rims out and tell me if they will fit. It says +38 offset. Here is the link for some rims I liked: http://www.ebay.com/itm/17-New-Black...87d6f4&vxp=mtr Thanks for the feedback, I don't want to have them ship to me only to find out something doesn't fit or work right. |

What are your current stock tire sizes?

E60 530xi BMW light alloy wheel, spider spoke 138
http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...73&hg=36&fg=15 So I'm led to believe i have front offsets of 43 and rear offsets of 55. Most rims come with one offset for the set, such as the one i really liked above in the ebay ad. Those are all +38. I emailed the seller and he said they are only for 3 series. I believe he is mistaken. I'm not trying to lower my car or get new tires. I'm just not crazy about my stock rims. I know it could be worse, and I don't know how much heavier the ones on ebay are. So what should I do? |

The offset for the xi is +43 all around.
However, as you can see, you can go with less offset and get a more flush fit. I have +35 on a wider 9 inch rim, so it is much more flush, and I may even put a spacer on the rears. For the love of all that's holy, why in the world would you stay with 17 inch rims???? Go here for all you want to know about aftermarket wheels on the e60 xi. http://forums.5series.net/topic/9513...nsions-for-xi/ Good luck! |

Hey thanks for the reply!
If I go larger to 19's, they say you gotta lower the car for the look right? So lets forget all that drama and cash. Daily driving aggressively on the crap roads in NYC, I'd like all the padding possible thank you very much! Why discard the all weather tires too??? |

The tire profile for 17 inch wheels is 50. This does provide some comfort, but it at a cost of road feel and handling. Don't get me wrong, I am not interested in rubber band tires with no give. (people that try to use 20 inch wheels with 20 series look silly, to me). Also, the ride becomes harsh and the wheels are vulnerable to cracking. That said, stepping up to 18 inch with 235/40 and 275/35 is a good balance of feel and comfort. This was an OEM option for the xi.
The notion that 19 inch wheels require a drop is a matter of looks only. (And if you are concerned about looks why would stay with 17 inch as this looks ghey.) Or, you can go with 19 inch and use a slightly larger tire profile. Instead of 235/35/19 and 275/30/19 you can use 235/40 and 275/35. Your speedo will be off slighty from factory--but BMW's are usually off in the other direction so this actually works out. The larger profile "fills" the wheel well better. I don't care about a staggered look, and it is not as effecient in the snow (I live in Denver) so I have a 19 x 9 AVG 359 wheel with 245/40/19 all around. Love the ride/feel and it looks most wicked. |
