Would you hire someone with a neck tattoo?
I'm curious to all of the business owners / managers on here...let's say you have a prospective candidate that walks in with a non offensive neck tattoo.
His / hers qualifications are fine and passes a background check. Are you hiring or tossing out immediately due to the neck tattoo? |

All depends on the position and their qualifications. For a warehouseman / Mechanic etc, no problem. For a VP of Sales, I may look for other candidates. Ultimately, if it came down to them being the most qualified, it wouldn’t stop me.

mirroring what others say, if the job is customer facing job OR a job that represent the brand / image of the company, most probably no unless this candidate has an exceptional skill.
but if it's a non customer facing job (i.e customer service by phone or chat OR computer programmer OR scientist), then why not as long as the skills match the job requirement. I wouldn't mind a neck tattoo if this candidate possess an exceptional skill in computer programming. |

we hire one in a engineer consultant firm.
He's taking care of contract admin, so on job site, but still, not the best image for a p.eng. firm. He's doing a great job, so yes I would say don't stop on that. Few jobs wont work, like lawyer firm, this is a big no, judges don't like that, at least not the actual generation of judges. Back in the days, badboys/girls had tattoos, but now karens that go sleep à 8h30pm and drive exiting hyundai elantra base model, got tattoos... In my case, my colleague is in the badboii gang, and we have attitude issues with him, and clients, but nothing that would hurt our image at all. He's so into the work that actually do better than a lot of other employees. BTW, his tattoos are satan, naked girls, skulls, girls with huge tits, etc. He's trying his best to hide them, but some can't be hidden. |

I know a criminal lawyer that is covered in tattoos from head to toes and he is the best of the best.
What does tattoos have to do with you being able to do your job? By the way. I don`t have a single tattoo on my body but I don`t see tattoos as a handicap that prevents you from doing your job.

I have a bunch of engineers working for me. While I'm not personally a fan of neck tattoos, as long as it wasn't offensive, I wouldn't have an issue. In full disclosure, I have a lot of tattoos, but they can be covered when it's necessary to provide that image.

Lol, I did not use him for anything illegal, if that's what you are asking. He`s a friend of the family and he did the paper work the last time I moved and later on he did my will.

I'm of the older generation here and if I was hiring manager it would be job dependent. Honest answer.

Absolutely would hire them as long as they fit the job needing to be done. I worked for a dealership years ago and we had a gentleman who worked the F&I office/sales named Red. Red was a HUGE dude all about 6'5", 320lbs of muscle, bald head, huge grey beard, tattoos all over including a giant eye on the front of his neck, very menacing looking to say the least. However, Red was one of the biggest teddy bear people I have ever met in my life. Everyone loved and respected him because he was always smiling and joking even when he was going through a lot of personal life drama. I learned not to judge someone by what tats they have but by their character and how they present themselves. Hell I'm the only person in my department without a tattoo. The old school way of thinking that tattoos=unemployable should be discontinued due to the fact alot more people have them now. Most interoffice dress codes usually covers them up one form or fashion anyways!

So, if someone shows up with a tastefully done American Flag tattooed on his or her neck, you would not hire them?
Or, you reserve the right to inspect prospective employees skin tattoos and only hire those whom you approve. It's 2023, people apply for jobs with tattoos, piercings, dreadlocks, etc. If it does not affect the performance on the job, and they are good at the job, what is the issue? |

that's why i said earlier in my reply, that if the job is customer facing that represent the company or brand, you want a clean look as you may never know which sales you are going to lose based on karens, that karens that may bring your biggest sales of the month. i dont have problem with tattoos, but i understand what others are thinking about it. |

In addition to job, I think it also depends on location. Where I live in FL it would be unusual. In Asheville, NC it wouldn’t make anyone even blink.
You thinking of getting a neck tattoo OP?

I'm usually pretty judgmental, but I wouldn't really think much of it unless it was tasteless or worse. Given the scenario that already stated it wasn't, I'd be more focused on qualifications and personality.
