block all f**k threads
Recently i have been rather put off by several members with blatant vulgarity on the forum with F**K threads. can e90 post admin not block them from putting these threads up. They /vulgar threads are a verbal eye sore and spoil an otherwise great bmw forum. looking forward to your reply

I'm English, I'm immune to the "vulgar" language, but still it would be better without the language.

F'in posts
re: F'in posts
Well, I think we could try to keep our language reasonably clean. Afterall, cussing is the last resort of those unable to hold up their end of a debate. Besides, we have even been given the luxury of a smiley extending his middle finger, so one doesn't even have to type it. I think the real issue is not the language per se, but the back and forth personal stuff that results in such language. |

here comes the FCC censuring everything we say. I can see where you're coming from but I dont think it's enough to block all those threads. Im actually in the middle. I am not for nor am I against it. Whatever it is, it's cool with me.

Interesting debate. I'm in the middle too. I don't the the F bomb should be allowed in the subject line... but otherwise it's too subjective to censor. Peer admonishment goes a long way - except for the trolls, who are best just ignored.
When I step out of line here, I prefer to get an "earful" from fellow members than to have my posts just mysteriously disappear as they sometimes do.

I think the best solution is to have an option in your user profile settings to block certain language. Then you can configure how you see fit. Personally, I don't give a f...

Beyond any freedom of speech or censorship issues, this is a BMW CAR forum, not the Christian Teddy Bear collecting forum.
You should expect Garage Talk here.

As suggested elsewhere, Mark & Jason are not Congress, we are not the Virginia House of Burgesses, this is not the New York Times, and you are not Howard Stern. The discussion is not about your right to free speech, and I am not trying to censor you. My point was that most people can modulate the their language. There aren't any posters here who are shopping carts, but I do know that there have been some nasty threads where they were swearing at each other. I just think that's uncool. Since you brought law into it, remember that when you join a forum, you ostensibly are agreeing to the terms and conditions as outlined by our hosts. That is a contract. We have our end of the bargain to keep up. Pornography is not illegal, but would be inappropriate on this forum. Now do you see the difference? The way I see it, if people were more reasonable with their language, this thread wouldn't even exist. I'm for self-control over censorship, the same way that you might have the right to drive on the road, but the responsibility to do so in a safe fashion. You sound as though Mark and Jason send people to the Gulag or something for swearing. I will say this, though, I think I'd find it entertaining to read some of the back and forth posts of which I do not have first hand knowledge because of censorship. Even if cuss words were replaced with #@%&GGRR etc, I could figure out what was going on...Anyway I do swear at home on occasion, but somehow typing gives me a few more crucial milliseconds of self-control. |
