Help with a used BMW 520d M Sport 08
Hi guys.
I’ve been looking at a new used car recently as about to hand back my existing Kuga and came across this BMW 520d M Sport but it’s a 2008 model with 112k on the clock, my Kuga has 114k but it’s knackered. Is 112k a lot for this car? All service history is squeaky clean and in perfect condition but it’s going for 5,500 which will almost certainly depreciate a lot more. I really want it but a friend who is a mechanic said avoid because of swirl flaps and that it’s too much money for what it is and they are bad cars. I reviewed the car so much online and there’s only good things to say about it. Any advice appreciated as I’m due to go in on Sunday and buy it. My mechanic could just remove the flaps and should be ok then. |

Regarding the swirl flaps, it's a common issue on all diesels (even Mercedes) so if the intake has been cleaned or walnut blasted in the past you're good for a long time, worst case scenario a cleaning/removal will solve your problems. But they are used for low end power, honestly don't think they're even that beneficial.
I'd say at 5,500 go for it so long as the suspension/bushings are solid and there's no leaks etc. I'm sure it will at least get to 200k without issue. |

thanks very much, ill pass on the info. would it be wise to ask the dealer to confirm these points and also remove the flaps if need be, it seems to be a low cost so may do it at a lower/no cost to get the sale?
