Shop Owner Crashed & Totaled Customer's 911 GT3 RS During Joyride

Troubling:

"An Owner’s Worst Nightmare Became True When He Got a Phone Call Regarding His Porsche GT3 RS
We’ve all been there, standing at a dealership or mechanic shop’s counter handing over the keys to our precious bundles ‘o joy. While most technician test drives go according to plan, there are others that don’t. Even worse, it’s when a non-justified joy ride by the shop owner goes completely south. That’s exactly what happened to Rennlist member Ccapx.

The extremely valuable and coveted 991 GT3 RS is thought to be the ultimate Porsche. Sadly, such temptation proved to be too much for the owner of Bob Hindson Racing, Inc. According to multiple sources including the car’s owner, he took the vehicle on a four-hour joy ride, which including hard launches, redlining the motor, engaging in reckless driving, and ultimately smashing the thing into a building."

Such a shame, being in the area this was one of the favored performance shops to go to. No personal experiences as haven't used them though. Definitely gonna hurt business a bit as everyone becomes extra cautious now as this spreads.

This is so terribly egregious. The owner, apparently, flogged the car for 4 hours. Turns off TC, used launch control, and beat the crap out of the car, according to witness accounts.

This is a car guys worst nightmare!

Wow, with these cars selling for so much over MSRP, I wonder how the insurance will deal with it.

Guy should sue for beyond the cost of the car. This is wreckless. This kind of shit will start forcing owners to have a dash cam installed and running 24/7 while at a shop.

Thats why everyone should have video or audio recorded in their cars. Especially if you're the owner of something like this.

Sucks and I wish people who take a customer's car out for a joyride would go to jail for at least a year.

It'll more than likely be covered on the car owners insurance.

I own an import shop and still don't get why people post pictures of the "exotic" cars they work on..

Those are not the guys you want working on your stuff.

To add insult to injury, the shop is now flooding its FaceBook, Google, and Yelp reviews with positive 5 star reviews (likely fake) to counteract all of the negative reviews. Interesting.

The owner, Aaron Holstrom is clearly not interested in taking responsibility.

This just feels slimy from all angles.

I read through the forum yesterday, only looking for the OP updates, and he said the owner was being helpful at first. Then the 911 owner had to use his insurance to figure this out but now the shop owner is being 100% unhelpful.

911 owner has lawyers and other legal people helping him but it seems like it's going to be a long process.

I think the damages around $100k to $150k, his post was vague. But I don't think thats the total cost since the car has to be thoroughly checked.

One thing I never knew was in an accident is that even if the car is mechanically fine, will sometimes have software issues. The ECU will just have issues with the tranny, suspension and engine. Cars that damaged like this will, more than likely, be dedicated track machines.

And such a shame the shop is trying to show good reviews. That's definitely the type of place that needs to be shut down. Oh and this shop seems to have been doing this for years on other customer cars.....

Nothing short of complete replacement of said vehicle is required since resale value is completely decimated regardless of components that end up being replaced

Its damaged goods

IMO, the owner of the shop should be held 100% liable. And he cannot deny that since the ECM recorded everything he did.

The 911 owner should get his car fixed 100%, by a shop of his choice, and get the market value for his car.

A very reputable body shop owner crashed a Porsche Carrera GT back in 2006. The shop is still there, but I seriously doubt if he gets any business from the nearby Greenwich, CT Porsche dealer after this:
