'08 BMW 528i - transmission knock after engine start?

My '08 BMW has a safety feature that prevents 'rolling' of the vehicle. I was trying to park within lines and opened my door while the car was moving very slowly. The safety setting automatically tried to change the gear into the 'PARK' position and the car started making a ticking noise.

Now, when I start my engine, I hear a 1-second 'knock' (sometimes louder sometimes softer) - it is hard to describe but it sounds like a gear shifting on a manual transmission.

Car is under warranty with 27k miles.

Any ideas?

Since your car is under warranty, why not take it in to the dealer and ask those who should know? Hopefully it's something simple. I had the same thing happen with my '08 when I opened the door while backing. It scared the c*** out of me. But I had no unusual noises afterwords and no problems. Please let us know what the dealer says.

Took the car to the dealer, they put it through about an hour or so of diagnostics. The verdict was that the sound could not be reproduced and everything runs fine...

If you let the car move without completely taking your foot off the brake pedal, it will not go into park. Just leave slight pressure on the pedal.
