Hiding Audio Video Components in Closet

My wife and I are going to move shortly, and the way our bedroom is set up, I want to place our cable box and other components in the closet and mount a TV on the wall. However, I don't want to have to open the closet to change the channel, adjust volume, Etc Etc.

I've seen some people use a remote control eye. How does this work? What do I need to get?

I'd like an "economical solution" if possible.

Thanks in advance!!!!

Harmony H890 RF remote.

It will do what you need and help eliminate extra remotes.

I have a harmony in every room in my house. Phenomenal remotes. Make sure your closet has decent airspace.

RF remote with an RF to IR converter is the only way to do this with the least amount of problems. I seen people who done the remote "eye" or remote IR receiver and have problems with them. One many IR remotes and equipment are sensitive to background light like sunlight and florescent and the can be very directional. with RF you can be anywhere in the room or house to control the equipment, even under the sheets

I would to say the Harmony are the easiest to program I have come across, and I used the Sony and Phillips Proto which were the very first programmable remotes on the market.

Control 4 is your answer! I just got my condo done. It's the best thing ever. Everything is onto a single remote with everything hidden. It runs on RF or wifi (depending on preference). Lights, blinds, blue ray, climate......... if it's electronic...... u can control it. I can even use my I phone to control everything. So i can basically control everything in my house from anywhere on this planet. I really love it. U should get it too. Afterall, isn't moving the best excuse to buy what u want without the wife complaining?

if you know how to solder, you can convert a radio shack motion sensor unit and a pinhole camera into an awesome motion detected camera. then you don't have to hide it in your closet.

The 550 isn't RF, it uses IR.
