Advice before buying my 1st Bimmer.
Greetings all,
I require your expertise, knowledge and advice. I’ll need to change my car this coming year. And I plan to buy my dream car, a BMW 5 series. Planning to buy a 2006 and up. At 1st was thinking about the 535 E60, but after a lot of reading, and finding out that there are a lot of electrical/electronic and turbo issues, I’m planning to go with a 528. It will be either an E60 or F10/F11. Depending on what I find and the price. I know that on paper the fuel consumption is a lot better on the F10/F11 compare to the E60. Now What I need to know: • Any particular issues with the E60 528? • Would it be wiser to go with a 528 F10/F11 instead to avoid the issues that plague the E60? • Any particular issue(s) with the F10/F11 (Did not find anything regarding those) • Is the fuel consumption that much better on the F10/11 compared to the E60? • Did they fix the turbo issues on the F10/F11? • Is the XDrive system reliable? Thank you. |

You seem to have quite a range
The 528 is a good choice for your first Bimmer because they have been less problematic than the other models. However, you stated that you are looking in the range 2006 - F10. You will find that prices vary quite a bit from the '06 to later years. What is your budget? Obviously, a later model year/less miles car will supposedly present fewer issues, but will probably cost a lot more.
I have had a '07 530xi for 3 years now (105,000 miles) and the xDrive system has presented zero problems for me. I can't speak to your other questions. |

At 1st I was planning on getting a 2006-2008 535 (no xDrive). But after much reading I revised myself and was more looking into a 2008-2011 (2011 is stretching it!!! )
I was planning on spending less than 20K (Around 17) But now willing to go up to 26K it is saves me on repairs!!! Now looking at 2009-2010 528 xDrive models. But don’t know how reliable the xDrive system is? Also don’t know what’s the range of issues for the 528? I know that the 535 has a lot of Turbo issues, also electronics issues ( Nav, power, etc.. They recommended the less features, the better) I saw a 2011 for 29K. I love the new look, but 29K is really stretching it. |

I just purchased my first BMW, a 2007 E60 530i. Extremely happy with it and had no problems what so ever (thus far). I bought it at 62,000k's. Fuel consumption around town is pretty average, i usually get anywhere from 600k-850k depending on how heavy i am with my foot. Long distant trips get me over 1,000k's believe it or not. I'm now looking at putting a turbo on it in the next coming months. What turbo issues have you heard about? and what engine are they running where you're from? They run the N52B30A here in Australia. I heard they run the N53 in other countries because on temp difference.
