iPad Pro for daily computer?

Is anyone using this for primary computer? Was going to get the new 16" MPB, but got to thinking about it and not so sure I need that much power for what I do.

I would spec 256GB with the new magic keyboard just like in video.

Haven't been able to go to Apple store for obvious reasons, but video makes it look good imo.

Thoughts?

Depends on what the actual needs are. The wife is going for her doctorate, so a ton of papers among other school work. She still uses her 17” laptop, the iPad-Pro has worked really well if we are not at home or even if she is just doing some lighter work at home. She does not have the largest screen version, but with that said she can and does use the screen heavily. We got a different keyboard than the Apple but it also works well.

Agreed. Depends on your needs. I bought an iPad Pro with the keyboard and pencil and never use the keyboard or pencil. I find it easier to just use the on-screen keyboard. But I do the majority of my work on my MacBook Pro or my iMac. The iPad is for meetings and such. You need to determine which apps you need to get work done and then see if they're available and usable on an iPad.

I’m actually the opposite. I only use my iPad Pro w/pencil or keyboard. I also have two other MacBook Pros, one older (personal) and then the latest model for work.

Pro w/keyboard allows me to do everything I need for personal use IMO. There isn’t much I can’t do with the pro for personal use plus its a lot lighter and easier to carry around.

Yes, I have an Imac in home office, but wanted something for daily running around. My 2013 MacBook Air just took a dump (after 7 years can't complain) best laptop I've ever owned.

Yea, I see what you're saying. I'm sure it's a great addition to a MPB or iMac, but not able to replace it comfortably just yet.

Oh well, I guess I'll just order it and find out how it is. There just something about a tablet I feel more productive on.

ipad for portability and larger screen on vacations but for actual work i prefer a traditional laptop and a usb/wireless mouse. I am also a creative so I need the extra screen real estate and beefier specs.

I still can't see myself using an Ipad Pro as a value proposition for work bc my dollars could go so much further.

The pencil looks cool and has decent function. I have the Apple keyboard/cover. It was the slimmest option and fits well.

It came last week. Got the 12.9" 256GB Space gray with Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2.

Using it now and it's great!

I have an 11” with the new keyboard and like it for light traveling and going to conference room meetings etc (when we had them). If you’re mainly doing office type work (email, web, MS Office/Teams), it’s more than capable. You obviously don’t have the full multi window experience but works in most cases. We have some execs who only use the 13” iPad Pro and with OneDrive, storage really isn’t a issue.

Now if you’re doing more performance oriented work or need to look at a lot of data like on spreadsheets, you’re better off on a laptop and having a way to use a larger or multiple monitors. Just my IMO.

I also use a Surface Laptop, 15” MBP And MacBook Air. Where the decision becomes more difficult is between the MBA and the iPad Pro except for using external monitors. Sometimes I travel with the MBA because I want a more desktop type experience.

Yes, what I ended up doing was just keeping my 2016 15" MPB and just using the iPad in the living room and around house. MPB stays in office. Have been messing around with "sidecar" feature.

Is kind of cool with apple pencil for notes and stuff.

Yeah, you will find that ~75% (give or take based on use case) of the time you don't need the full laptop, but still need something for specialized tasks. I do work on a lot of data and it's just easier and faster for me to use the laptop. Basic entries can be done on the iPad, but it's wonky to me.

I too was skeptical when I made the transition.
Screen size/cover make it very portable. 256 GB of working memory is more than adequate. For archived data the cloud acts as an unlimited hard drive. I don’t use it, but my college kid says the pen was great for taking notes to save.
The good ol’ overheating laptop is like using cassettes to listen to music.
Been using it for years, and am very satisfied I made the transition.

Been using one since the 1st gen came out and I could get by traveling without a laptop and using a virtual desktop for work, but if you sit all day doing excel, I think it’d get tedious. If you’re primarily email and web based apps, it wouldn’t be that hard a transition and the weight, battery life and portability can’t be beat.
