Speeding ticket! Help

Hi there, I leave in Toronto and I just got a speeding ticket of $118, 75km in a 50km zone, any recommendations of company or guys that is able to dismiss it and don't going to rip me off? No more that $200/250!

For Americans, that's like going 45 in a 30.

In America, you can just hire a traffic lawyer to basically get most minor tickets off your record. But your price limit of $200/$250 seems pretty low (that's in CAD I'm assuming). Typically, you have to pay the lawyer generally about $300-$400 USD in large cities, and also a fine to the city. They usually just downgrade the ticket to a citation (non-moving violation) with a fine attached. So you'll end up out of pocket at least $400 probably if not more in a city like Chicago or Los Angeles (it could be more now as I haven't had a ticket in a while). This is all operating under the assumption that Canada's traffic courts are similar to America's traffic courts.

Forget about it. Pay it and learn a lesson.

Not worth fighting, since you are most likely guilty.

I say it doesn't hurt to fight it. Just got my case dismissed a few days ago. Not worth it to hire a lawyer.

How are you going to get it dismissed? Were you going 75 in a 50? If your gonna speed, get ready to be pulled over. Thats how its gonna work.

You can convince the cop not to give you the ticket or you can go to court if the cop dissent show it gets dismissed.

Depends, i think totally worth it. If you don't have the time or knowledge or energy to fight it (i.e. work full time) you can hire a traffic lawyer who will show up to court and raise your chances of winning 300%. Will also be cheaper than paying the ticket.
It doesn't take that much time and I win most of the time. Costs me nothing.

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time. Going 10% over the limit is one thing, 50% over something else entirely.

You might try posting this in the Canada regional section - someone there might know a traffic lawyer that works the area. It helps when they know the judges. Good luck! https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/fo...play.php?f=411

No company can "dismiss it". Go and say you are sorry and try to get it changed to a non moving violation.

Cheaper than a $118 Cdn ticket? I doubt it...........

With my old M3's, this used to be a common problem. Especially with my Henna Red E30 M3 with that "whale tail".

Now with my electric eDrive, I've slowed way down. I used to hate traffic court. Crammed in that little room with 75 other speeders all scheduled the same day.

What I usually did, and my success rate is about 75%, was:
-Be extremely respectful of the officer when he pulls you over and ask (beg) for forgiveness.
-Pay the ticket and plead innocent.
-Months later you get your court date.
-Call the court and ask (beg) for a different date. They usually give you one delay.
-Usually if your court date is say, a Tuesday, that's the officers normal court day. Ask the court for a Thursday date. You have a better chance of the officer not showing, unless you were being a mouthy jerk when he pulled you over. Then he'll surely show.
-When it's your turn, tell the judge you were just enjoying your BMW, there was no one else around and you weren't being reckless. Ask (BEG) the judge for forgiveness. If he says "NO", beg for no points and just pay the fine.

It all about the money with a speeding ticket. And they are going to get it out of you. Especially in a BMW. It's the points on your licence and the insurance company you have to worry about.

If it's a school bus violation, running a red light, or drunk driving, all bets off. They are going to hang you.

I am a retired Toronto Police officer:

Go to court, and locate the officer who gave you the ticket before court starts. If he isn't there then speak with the crown and tell them you want a trial but haven't seen the officer. The crown with withdraw the ticket if the officer isn't there as they can't offer evidence without the officer.

If the officer is there tell him you'd be willing to plea to 15kmh over the limit, ie: 65 in a 50 kmh zone. You won't lose any demerit points for that and the fine will be lower.

If this is your first ticket then your insurance shouldn't be effected and the ticket will come off your record in 3 years if you don't get any other tickets.

You'll pay over $200 to have a representative in court and will likely do exactly the same thing for you.

This is the best informed advice, and The Airman's advice.

If you speed, and are stopped, keep both hands on the wheel when approached. When the officer asks for your license and registration, before you move, tell him, "It's in my wallet, and glove box", or wherever it is. If you have a legal concealed weapon, tell them up front. Be as nice and courteous as possible. Make it the easiest safest stop for them. Goes a long way. The part about court and changing dates is 100% spot on. If the officer doesn't show, ask for dismissal. Usually works.

Otherwise, don't speed. I usually only go 8 over the limit. Go right past speed traps, and even pass them. Never any trouble. Tickets are too expensive. Had my share.

Hire a private investigator to learn about the officer.
Identify potential family members that are suitable to wed.
Perform sex change operation if necessary.
Court and marry said family member.
Slowly earn the trust of the family.
Have officer sign off on your ticket.

Americans, you'll never understand how insane that looks written down. no, we don't need to keep two hands on the wheel 'cos our cops are not nervous and trigger happy because they know 99.9% of the time there's no fucking gun.

Unbelievable.

Actually, turn on the dome light, roll down the window and hands on the wheel is appreciated. When going for the glove box don't block the officers view and be polite because that does go a long way.

Yup, +1 on that.

I don't often get pulled over, but I put down all windows so the officer has a clear sight all around the car (plus my windows are tinted, and I'd prefer not to have a discussion about the tint ratio as I have no idea what it is, bought it that way), hands stay on the steering wheel until asked for my license.

And I'm a polite guy by nature usually. I think the last time I was pulled over I was let off with a warning even though I was doing 110km/h in an 80. But the officer recognized me from walking my dog around there and we just chatted about cars and he let me go on my way and just asked I keep it below 100 on that road.

x2, i got pulled over for doing 85mph in a 65, had all the windows down, license and registration already in my hands that were both on the wheel and yada, yada, yada he let me go
