As if there are steel brakes you could use on a big track and not burn through pads and rotors...yes, people are stupid.

I've gotta say, this thing is such a sleeper. The weekly cars & coffee at Malibu Country Mart out here is one of the most well-known car gatherings in the country. Today there were two Plaids and absolutely nobody paid them any attention. The ICE cars got all the love.
I suppose the sleeper status is part of the appeal for some people.

I don't care for them (too bland for my liking), but won't discount anyone for enjoying them, and there is no denying the acceleration of the Plaid, or the P100D before it. That model Y...now it is just hideous.

I've commented here and there in a few EV threads, but they almost all end up being a back and forth between ICE and EV camps. I have nothing against Tesla and actually think the technology is pretty amazing. I also don't see myself in an EV for many years at least. I like cars of all kinds and they don't have to be fast to be cool. Having grown in in a car-culture family, it's in my blood. I want my cars to be something that excites me and those that are like me. That's why I built my Cobra. That car gets more attention than any other car I've ever driven. My M550i will out perform it in a number of ways, but I don't have people hanging out of their window taking pictures of the BMW. I'd love to drive a Plaid to see how that ridiculous acceleration feels. I also like the sound of a big V8. I always wanted to add a gear drive timing set on my Camaro when I was in high school, because it sounded cool. I love the turbo whistle on my F-250, I love the burble as the BMW pounds through the gears under hard acceleration. I like the go-kart like steering and deafening exhaust of the Cobra. Heck, I even like the quiet comfort of my wife's Lexus when we are on a road trip. For some, cars are just appliances, and there are plenty of them out there that do nothing more than serve that purpose. For others, cars are an emotional outlet that stimulate the senses; some just in different ways than others.

I see this take a lot here and have to disagree. There’s plenty of people out there that love cars in all shapes and forms, from a VW Bus to Grave Digger and on to an F50. Leno is maybe the most well-known “car enthusiast” in the world, and he has several EV’s (including a Tesla) along with his jet-powered what-the-fuck. If you love cars, you love cars, and can find something to appreciate about what each are about. No need to gatekeep or turn your nose up. This pigeon-holing of “car enthusiast” to only mean somebody is into lightweight sports cars or whatever is a load of hooey.

Wait for Tesla Cybertruck people will hanging out of their windows to take the picture (before it will get oversaturated of course).

What did you expect from low clearance vehicle on road tires? Electric vehicles with 4 hub motors will be much more off-road capable than any ICE. This electric Pratt Miller METS vehicle is a great example of future potentials (demo starts at 2:52):

Like a month into it and still getting used to it But growing on me very slowly But I'll jump on an AMG steering wheel it ///M smaller ones look better but I'll take the yolk for sure over the previous hideous steering wheel Tesla used to offer!! Was a disaster!! Eye sore vs now eye candy despite being in my opinion version 1.0 to reinvent the wheel and it's a total disaster lol

That's pretty decent. Very linear I can imagine. I've hit 1.36 in my 9 sec TRX on 35s which feels sketch. They say the Demon can do 1.8g, but I've never setup mine to be able to actually hook or tracked it. The repeatability of the electric is what's most impressive to me.

Different cars scratch different itches. Who am I to judge your itch? I like my 2013 F30 and my '66 Galaxie. I want a Tesla and will have one someday. Enjoy your cars!

Dialogue I expected a launch-control start in this power-crazed Tesla to blow my synapses (it did). I didn't expect what it was like the rest of the time. A stab of the accelerator at 20 mph or 100 mph—it didn't matter—caused it to blast off with such instant, cartoon-like, reality-bending ferocity that my neck muscles strained mightily to keep my head level. Whoa! I wish I could give every EV hater a ride in this thing. Its ability to blow minds might also change a few. —Rich Ceppos My 2 cents: will the pros outweigh the cons? For some yes, for some no…that is how it goes. No big deal. |
