Interesting idea, but don’t know how much it helps. You’ve still got to get them sharpened every so often just from the wear from use on a cutting board. Wood block storage does probably wear on edges, but the layout on ours is horizontal so as long as you slide them in without rubbing against the edge, in theory there’s no wear. But still, they get dull so have to get them sharpened.

Grinder wise, can’t believe this Capresso burr grinder has lasted the 15+ years I’ve had it. Hopefully not jinxing it *knocks on wood*

My understanding is that with the knife edge up, you don't cut into the wood as much when sliding the knife in & out. So, it's more to keep the block in good shape.

I'm trained in the habit to always face cutting edges away from you. I guess I carry this safety concept to even when kitchen knives are in a block.

The rod doesn't sharpen, it hones the edge.

I use k cups usually from Green Mountain or Peets. I know coffee snobs will disapprove but I ain't got time for fresh grinding or roasting.

Turn the keurig on, put the k cup in, coffee comes out in less than a minutes. Add a splash of whole milk and I'm out the door.

Wife doesn't drink coffee and we have free coffee, tea, espresso, and wine at the bar at work so I never made coffee at home. With this whole covid thing I've been missing my morning coffee (and afternoon wine, but that's another discussion) so I cleaned out the old
Coffee maker and ordered some Boast coffee out of San Francisco. I'm not a coffee snob, but I know what I like, and I love this coffee. I'm curious to know what the aficionados think:

If laziness is your priority, a Nespresso will do the job much better, albeit at a higher cost.

When we we remodeled our kitchen we put in a coffee bar. I really like my Barrattza sette 270 grinder. I got it directly from their site in the return section. Sometimes they have really good deals there. The nice thing about it is once you get it dialed in, it is super repeatable. When you change beans it is pretty easy to adjust to a near perfect puck. It also has a direct feed system so it requires very little maintenance.

I've had my Rancillio for probably 10 yrs and it pumps out great espresso every day. With this set up, making a near perfect cappuccino doesn't take much more time than a drip pot in the morning.

I'm partial to Counter Culture beans. They are single lot roasters so the farms they source from rotate throughout the year.
https://counterculturecoffee.com/?gc...BoCLRwQAvD_BwE
It is kind of fun to get the different tastes from the locality, the drying method, the time of year, etc. They do a pretty good job describing what you're in for with each lot so you can pick and choose to your taste. My go to "standard" is their big trouble. Makes a great espresso with lots of crema
And funny, I looked at my knives after the discussion above and realize my block holds them sideways

Man I thought I had it down. Had my amount and grind setting set for some petes I was using to get use to the machine. Made 2 shots that I thought came out pretty good, wrote all the settings down, did exact same thing this morning and machine couldn't even get a drop out. Kept upping the grind, same shit. Got so pissed ended up just making some drip coffee.

Counter Culture is good stuff.

If I ever end up with the counter space to do a plumbed machine, I'd seriously consider what I used to use at my last job - https://www.seattlecoffeegear.com/ro...presso-machine

Pair that with a more serious burr grinder than I currently have and I'd be a happy camper.

What's your favorite ground coffee?

The beans I grind just before I press it...

Starbucks French Roast.
Quality, and more importantly, consistent.
Buy large 40 oz bags from Amazon. Relatively inexpensive.

Novice question

Okay, here's a novice question:

Background: I have a Keurig. I like to grind my own beans and use the metal filter cup that comes with the Keurig. I've been using an old electric bean grinder that has no setting for coarseness.

Question: I just bought a good bean grinder that allows me to select the the coarseness. Do I need to also buy a pour through, or will I get the same results by using my freshly ground bean and my Kuerig adapter for fresh ground coffee?

I tend to drink espresso so I don't own a pour over, however I HATE Keurig coffee. If I want regular coffee I'd rather use my drip coffee maker, so my guess would be a pour over or even a french press would give better results than the Keurig. However a pour over or french press are cheap so just try it and see how you like it.

As for coffee I have been trying various espresso blends from peets. I like the Espresso Forte, but I think I like the Garuda even more. I have tried some other "fancy" brands that honestly just taste horrible to me. Have some of their Italian Blend coming in soon to try that. I get the whole beans, but they will grind it to your liking also.

My preferred coffee is Julius Meinl with Delonghi coffee maker, after long time testing all kind of brands, narrowed my family choice to Jubilaum and Amaranto.
