You know.....thinking about this more and just in general.
I would actually talk to more people, but as it stands right now and for as long as I can remember......The only time I hear from most anyone that I don't see on a daily basis is because of something they need help with. Example.....this morning I get up, and I have 3 text messages from 3 different people....one of whom is my brother....and they are all asking about a solution to a problem. My niece just gave birth to my brother's grandkid last week.....and it was "crickets" with my phone. But I wake up this morning to an Electrical question about wiring up a stupid hot tub. It's the story of my life. I'm only contacted or approached if someone has an Electrical, Computer, or Automotive question.....or any issue for that matter. I'm not Webster or Google!! My wife can ask me....have you heard from "so and so" lately? And I say no....and she will say I guess they don't need anything. And if I say yes....she will be like "what do they need help with"?

Same here....I have always been that person that found it hard to say no if someone genuinely needed help. I just hate to see good people get taken advantage of. But now......I am resentful because I realize that I am one of those being taken advantage of!

It's funny how people who pose as friends are only your friends in the event that it benefits them to some degree. Remove the benefit and see how many of them make the effort to continue the relationship. |

Same here - takes just a few moments for a response and if they are a good person what does it hurt. I tend to at least respond to contact for people that are good, even if I am not initiating anything.

My Sancha, who actually set up the blind date that led to the last 20 blessed years of my life (no, she does NOT have access) texted me Thursday night to come have a beer, since her youngest son was waiting and having a beer-sales contest. We caught up for a few hours, then we probably won't see/hear for another several years.
BUT, we picked up right where we left off. There are one or two others like that, but few/far between. So I do cherish that time together. |

Pretty much the latter, it's a joke among the family that my Mexican wife really doesn't appreciate
In my extremely limited defense, Sancha is the one who always called herself Sancha. I've only seen as much leg as a skirt reveals

Not to make this political/religious, as I'm sure they are decent humans, but knocking on doors and basically telling people they need to do something and refusing to leave is not very inviting.

OP: sounds like someone you could be "facebook friends" with but nothing more. As mentioned, could be of help professionally in the future, but you shouldn't feel bad for not wanting more than anything past what's already been mentioned.
