1st Oil Service Appointment. Fraudulent?
I took my 2009 535i in last week for its first oil change after the one year anniversary. The car's computer still indicates that the oil change is not needed for another 6000 miles (the car has 12,000 currently), and the 6000 miles has been there for over 4 months now.
When I took it in, the SA girl told me that she will not reset the oil change mileage indicator, and that I will have to take it back in 6,000 miles from now. She has the audacity to tell me this right after giving me a speech about how BMW had engineered my 2009 5 series to last up to 18,000 miles (12,000 on the odometer + 6,000 on the indicator) before needing its first oil change. She didn't ask me whether I would like for her not to reset the oil change mileage. She just plainly told me that she WILL NOT reset it, and that I HAVE TO take my car back in 6000 miles. She said that the oil change will still be covered under warranty. Maybe I'm new to this, but that sounded fraudulent to me, and didn't sit well with me. Is this normal procedure with all BMW service department? |

That's the way it works. They will change your oil once a year regardless of mileage but won't reset the indicator until it's due. At least that's what they have always done on my cars.
