Thanks for the video. My thought is they're just great cars, and really all anybody needs. 400+ horsepower is just a number and a complete waste in a passenger car, bragging rights is really all high HP is good for.

Considering how insanely expensive anything nice is these days, I just don't see the point in not getting a nicer old car. My Z4M Roadster is never going anywhere, what would be the point in selling it? The money I get for it won't come close to buying something comparable which is newer, sort of like the cars above.

Six speed manuals, no electronic gadgets, it's just the way to go in my opinion.

This is the main reason why I have stayed in a certain time frame. The are the BMW's cars I have owned :
2003 BMW 325i sport
2005 BMW 330i ZHP (miss this car)
2003 BMW 530i sport
1998 BMW M3 E36
Current weekend warrior 2006 BMW Z4M R

What I have found out is that the Z is even more raw than the E36 M.
I don't know what it is but there is something about an 'Analog' car.

My daily is a Q50 Infiniti, a very nice car. BUT, a very numb car compared to the Z4M.
Great gadgets, power, comfort, but absolutely lacks the exhilarating factor.

Maybe we are getting older, maybe it's a bit if a nostalgic feeling, but there is nothing like driving a NA straight 6 while rowing your own gears.
Drop the roof, and it's what I call 'therapy'.

For all these reasons and more, we are hanging on to these cars; and people on the outside are starting to notice.

That's what all the sub-400ers say... until they join the 400hp+ club.

Expensive is relative. I'm saving a lot of money by not driving a 911 Turbo.

True, but my Z4M is the weakest car I've had in probably 20 years hah. Love it more than anything I've owned before. Even my t-88 Supra!

And yes, yes you are. LoL.

Rarity and especially demand, which for most M cars there will be little in the future.

A 00s M5 or 90s will never be what a 70s Mustang is.

This is one of the reasons I bought my Z4MC, mine is a low milage (relatively @ 66000 KM), and very clean. It is unique in that you rarely see another one. It is analog and a lot of fun to drive. I've had faster cars but this thing is the whole package, not stability controlled beyond belief, quick enough, unique enough and my wife loves driving it too. I suspect these will go up in value, maybe not the way Porsches are but I guess time will tell. I'd love an older M5, if I could get an old M5 Wagon it might be my grocery getter.

^ I love that video. I remember the first time I hit that nasty oversteer in my first Z4M, I had exactly the same thoughts. Once you figure out the car though, dayum it's insanely fun.

I also watched Doug's video and couldn't agree more. But $45K to $100K ? WTH!!

I currently drive a e39 540i 6speed(M5 lite lol) and can't fathom spending $45 on it, let alone $100K for an M5. The M cars are great cars but IDK if they will every get that high in prices.

My dad had a 70s mustang. They weren't rare at the time. The M cars become rare when more and more are taken out of the pool in time.

I think prices could get there. We're never going to see a naturally aspirated engine ever again and the e39 M5 is thought to be one of the best M5's. The potential is there, I think.

Reason I only put 350 miles on my 03 M5 last yr. Brilliant car. Hope values continue to go up. Thank EAG too, which mine is one.

I dunno, I feel like that doesn't do the car justice. I don't ever plan to sell my 3 M's but it is comforting to know that the prices will keep going up (manual transmission + NA = win). However, they're all drivers. I bought them with medium to higher miles, so they'll never be collector cars IMO. Might as well enjoy the living hell out of them!

So did you buy it purely for speculation?

Nope, just always loved the e39. Mileage is low, car is minty fresh and it's a fourth car so no need to drive, let's be honest, the F10 is more fun.

Less so, but prices could creep up a tiny bit. First and only V8 M3.

More like the last N/A, true Motorsport engine M3.

Yeah, but it also was a porker.
