Putting folk on your ignore list just means less scrolling before you can get on with your life again I'm not a fan of scrolling, personally.

The website goes offline daily at 7am GMT, I guess for a server restart or something. Lasts about 5mins.

I didn’t know I could ignore people but I wonder if I am on anyone’s list. I think I’m basically unknown so it’s unlikely

I have never put anyone on ignore. I find it oddly satisfying to read some of the nonsense a few spew which just affirms my opinion of them or progresses my opinion from ahole to d!ck to f’ing moron and so on.

Most are history.

I only hang out in this forum since my car isn’t in an active sub forum (2006 750Li). I enjoy everyone, even liked the politics forum in spite of disagreeing with some. I try not to take things here too seriously. No one blocked or ignored and don’t intend to ever do that.

i don't really not get along with anyone specific but i'll say... that the E90 forums (especially the tuning threads back in the day) and the M car forums where everyone thinks they drive a Ferrari have some special characters for sure... like bro u have an m2... i did too, its not a Koenigsegg relax

I used to belong to a forum where block lists were both ways. If you blocked someone, they were also automagically blocked from seeing your posts. If they blocked you, you would not see their posts. Interesting feature.....

People of all walks of life, a wide range of personalities ranging from very nice, decent people to sketchy individuals with bad intentions (beware of scammers on the prowl in the Classifieds: recently joined, low post count member pushing you into a deal is usually a tell-tale sign that trouble is looming).

Camaraderie, passion, appreciation, respect, jealousy, frustration, hurt feelings, trolling, hate, etc.: you name it, it's all part of society and so it's also reflected here. No matter the effort, do not expect everyone to like you or appreciate what you do and post - it's impossible. There may always be a 'haters gonna hate' individual around who likes to intentionally rain on someone else's parade, to stir up others.

But disrespect is increasingly trending. Especially since the COVID-19 pandemic, some think that they can go rogue or toxic, pretending that they are merely using their freedom of speech. Faced by this adverse trend, admin and moderators shifted gears: less leniency. Prior to messing with forum rules (for example an attempt to corrupt a thread by politicizing it), do mind that you are just a few mouse-clicks away from losing some or all of your privileges. And do not expect to bargain the terms of your penalty - you had your chance not to violate a forum rule, you blew it, now face the consequences of your choice. In the past I already made pleas to admin to unban a couple of members, but most who were resuscitated also blew their 'second life' chance.

Also trending: spam infesting the forums (especially SEO spam). Threads are sanitized by admin and moderators almost on a daily basis. Zero tolerance: permanent ban.

Not directed at you OP, but I'll just make a comment as one of the regulars on the F1 forum.

I'm vocal about being a big Verstappen fan but also happy to interact and read the posts from everyone, including Hamilton fans. I'm also very vocal about my respect for Hamilton the driver. Like with any sport, there's hardcore fans from all sides and people can get out of hand from time to time. We also have posters who are not fluent in English and do their best to communicate with all of us using online translators which can easily be misinterpreted if you read everything with pretense of hostility. For a fanbase made up of social justice warriors, I'd expect more than judging that individual immediately as some kind of terrible person.

There's Ferrari fans who get along with everyone, there's Alonso fans who get along with everyone, there's Merc fans who get along with everyone... etc.

Every fanbase is annoying to a fan of a rival/opposition.

There's some people who always switch to some extreme irrelevant victim/virtue signaling topic. It's time to get over 2021. Max is the King of F1 for the foreseeable future. The only way to enjoy F1 is to accept that.

I also recommend an appointment with an endocrinologist or an expert in testosterone replacement therapy.

I find that the ignore list works for me, I know that people will have different opinions but there are members that are simply too far from my moderate point of view. There are also a certain group of BMW enthusiasts that are a bit liberal when it comes to mods that I chose to no longer read. Other than those examples, I enjoy the knowledge shared here and have learned a great deal.

I figure either Bimmerpost has changed, or I have. Maybe both.

All in all, the site just feels like it is trying hard to make sure no one's feelings get hurt, can't say anything political, nothing religious, nothing overly polarizing, so we wind up with a lot of threads that are uninteresting by nature because they've been sanitized of most things that make them interesting.

And if that is how Bimmerpost feels is the best way to make money, then its well within the owners rights to do that. And have the mods enforce that approach. I suspect the site will be ok and will pivot as needed like the rest of the companies out there, so I don't think time will tell if this is the right approach.

But I think others, like me, have just become disinterested in this site and don't frequent it as much since there isn't anything that interesting or polarizing anymore. Leaves space for others to create content that drives traffic, which drives revenue. I guess the only question will be - which type of users created content that drove the most traffic. That's likely the users the owners want to keep, barring negative press.

I don't think I have anybody on my ignore list anymore though.

This is how pretty much any forum or comment area of the web is, except maybe reddit. I too feel it can be boring, I for one like to try and have civilish conversations with people of different views/opinions, thats the way you learn. Understand why it's easy to censor it all out because many people get out of control.

Used to be on GJ a lot, they censor/mod pretty heavy. Yet most of the very active users are old white ignorant racist men who are the ones reporting all threads/users who even mention anything controversial against their views. I gave up the site for that reason, especially after an Asian guy complained of the discriminatory nature of topics against tools made out the US and was banned for the nasty thread it became.

VERY INTERESTINGS

I was on GJ (different name) and I did notice a lot of Racism, but thought I was imagining thing's I had a lot of friends but it did have that feel about it

I got banned, about posting about politics or at least replying , apparently they have a no politics policy not that I saw anything.

One thread on something like "how/why america was great in the 60's" or something like that, some people talked about cars, about ice cream all kinds, I came out with about 5 reasons the 60's in America was not great especially for certain sections of the population

post go removed, I think I also posted some meme about obama, kinda funny one, then that was removed, then I asked in the feedback, "just curious why my meme was pulled down" boom banned, just 2 words "no politics" a temp suspension, or moderation, seriously, i certainly would have apologised.

I had about 500 posts and in the middle of a garage project withs lots of video and pics and indepth write-ups got a lot of good reviews LOL

I was able to put a black out scene on all my youtube video's saying what a tosser I thought the mod was, and if your watching this video, it's been stolen. LOL

pity, anyway I'm better now !
