i dont know about the 911TT, its AWD after all Standard 911s and GT3, ok

i hate people generalizing when they have only driven one model of each and ON top of that, it wasnt the top model in the respective range.

I have driven around half of bmws model range (around 50 models within the 3,5,6,7,z4,x3,x5,m3,m5,m6) and most mercs (c,cl,sl,e,cls) .

i think i have an idea of what they handle like

Ultimate?

MB's are great cars, but if you are a driver (ie "The Ultimate Driving Machine"), then you can appreciate the BMW philosiphy. How much a part of the car I percieve I am to be is important to me. Controls that are placen intuitively, with different shapes/textures/and torsional rigidities are important to me. So... I buy a bimmer.
cha cha cha.
So the lambo, porsche, etc are inferior to BMW? Let's keep things in perspective. The BMW is trying to appeal to a different swath of the mainstream just as mercedes is attempting the same thing. I love my car, but I didn't buy it because I bought into the marketing machine that has been shoving "ultimate driving machine" down our collective throats.

Honestly, there is an ass for every seat. These threads are so subjective--I am just sick of hearing people spew marketing propaganda on behalf of BMW. If YOU like the car, say why--I don't think a marketing slogan is justification for conceding that BMW has inferior workmanship compared to other (i.e. MB, Audi were some comparisons) interiors. I don't agree, but I am not going to bolster my argument with "why are you looking at your interior--ultimate driving machine..."

To each his own. I find the simpler lines of the BMW interior consistent with the company's emphasis on driving performance--ultimate--no, i won't give in and say it . I find the position of the wheel, arm rest, and shift knob perfect. I find that I can adjust my seat perfectly. I think, ergonomically--that the BMW is a better fit for my criteria for judging what is an excellent interior.

As for someone mentioning lexus, come on--you really think that silver colored plastic everywhere constitutes a better finish? I disagree.

Just trying to dip a nice big spoon into the pot and give it a stir. Let's tear the thread apart and really tell each other why the hell we love these cars.

From a former MB owner

Hey guys:

I'm new to the forum but had to add my $.02...

I LOVE the E92 coupe I just picked up because compared to my old '03 W215, The 92 just smokes 'em and is a car to be driven...it seemed like it was the other way around with the benz.

I think my old ride was far more "baller" in the looks department, but the 92 easily makes up for it in the way it drives. The interior of the BMW seems to match the vehicle's characteristics that way; simplistic form following function...

The W221 and W215/216 interiors are nice inside; no doubt...BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER WHEN YOU'RE DRIVING A BMW!!!

I love my 92!

My Benz interior did kill it though...

The thing is i drove an E350 after driving the 335i, when you drive the BMW you feel where your 40+ grand went to the performance, in the e your paying 52+ for a nice interior and soft ride.....it was a no brainer. I will admit it has a nicer looking interior but the bmw features are easier to use im not sure bout the idrive, becuase i dont have it, but i know my idrive less interior feautures are much easier to figure out and use than in the E.

Command over idrive...

in my opinion; it was easier to learn and use...It seems like the idrive needs more user time on set for it to sink in.

Here's another pic of my old girl... I still miss her. Oh, and 0700700: you'd probably step out of her if you knew how much cash she eats and how much she likes the repair shop...

Unbelievable

I'm baffled that anyone could say the interior of a Lexus is luxurious.
My wife "had to have" an RX330. The interior is totally sub-par. Silver plastic spewing down the center console. Buttons that feel like a $20 Sanyo boom box. 4-5 different lighting colors and a button for everything. How about the turn indicator, same one as a Corolla.

Mercedes is worlds better than Lexus but I find them using too much plastic lately and they are starting to resemble Chrysler vehicles just a little too much.

BMWs may not have many switches and buttons but the ones they do have feel solid and notchy and are made of superior materials.

In the audio world, Lexus is a Denon, Mercedes a Harman Kardon or Lexicon and BMW is a Linn or Naim.

Just my 2 pennies.

I can only go by what the magazines say, which is "Compared with the tied-down and precise M6, the laissez-faire Mercedes feels as if it were shod with winter tires."
http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews...s55/index.html
I'm not saying they don't handle, I'm saying they don't handle as well as a BMW.

Nobody was saying that a regular BMW is better than an AMG. You have to compare like classes. A 3er is better than a CL and a M6 is better than a CLS55. Also, the car in the review is a MY2005+ and it still can't take the M. Doesn't make the AMG any less sick, just makes it less sick than a M.

DocRoss is right on the $$$...

I didn't pay 100k to have a car sit in the shop 3 out of 4 weeks each mo.

The later models are falling apart just the same as my '03 did... My bro just got a W221 ('07 S-class) the tranny just went out at 6,400 miles...
full replacement by MB only took 3 weeks!

Cool huh?

That leaves the CLS. Immensely quick, fantastically comfortable, beautifully styled and solidly built, it combines the style and charisma of the Maserati with all the M5's integrity and nine-tenths of its dynamism. It's the most complete and desirable car here, and the one that each of us yearns to experience again. You certainly can't say the same about Ryanair.

tough luck. had the S class for 6 months with no worries, and sold it to make way for CLS55. My friend is driving a CL55 for 120000km with around 3 weeks spent in servicing in total. Another buddy has a new S500 with around 43000km and no service appointments... yet

he will just paste some links again--but I know where you are coming from. just had a friend file for the lemon law on his ML63, not a happy camper after only getting 1,500 miles.

congrats on your latest ride though--it is a great commuter!

You just killed your own argument, I'm not saying anything about overall best or comfort. I'm talking about handling. The review you posted says the CLS only has 9/10ths of the M5's dynamism. .9 (CLS) < 1 (M5)

I test drove a Lexus and I felt like everything was plastic...and it drove like a Ford Taurus compared to the 3-series. The 3-series is more simple, yet it seems more solid than any Lexus or Acura.

Actually, last time I checked, support is not required for an opinion.

Don't get me started on Benz...

Who gave you permission to be profane and insult people?

re-read my posts and you'll see I used the word OPINION.

Do you need a link?

And you chose the CLS55

P.S. It snows/sleets fairly often here combined with a lot of hills and the 3er is my only car.
