They are number one for migration out but not actually listed on the "Worst Cities in America" part.
The article is a bit confusing... the list typed out is all about Migration away from cities and the picture slide show takes that and other factors into account to determine the absolute worst cities in the country. |

yeah, that site sucks. there's a slide show at the top where you can flip through the 50 worst cities. or you can scroll down and there's a totally separate list that shows the cities where the most people are migrating away from. so which is it?
and then when you read the slide show all they do is give you one fact about that city. i was excited to read all the ways they were going to shit on Miami, and all i get is "it's expensive to live there". really? that's all you got?? |

We all see how you think now. Did you happen to read the part where most people living in Miami are poor? |

For the record, I dont think Miami sucks. Lots going on and not too far from the Key's which is one of my favorite places on the planet! Every city has its issues. |

seems the biggest factors in the worst city is income levels and high crime.
not necessarily a lot of research went into the article im guessing.

WTF two separate lists saying different things.
Anyhow, yes Detroit still sucks. The downtown area has improved over the past 6-7 yrs but there is still very little retail, density, walkability, and things to do. Outside the few square miles of downtown the remaining 130 sq miles are mostly a barren wasteland that I would not be caught dead driving in during the day. The article states 10.9% unemployment? BS, it's got to be at least 50%. As far as the rest of the metro area goes, it's wholly average. There's little reason to move there unless you want to work for one of the Big 3 or a supplier. It offers everything you need to have a comfortable life but it's just not exciting or "sexy" in any way. There are a few pockets of extreme wealth but it is mostly old money or Physicians. |
