Heated Seats retofitting
Hi everybody,
Although this is my first post, I have been around reading for a while and would like to thank you for the valuabe information I got so far! I am almost getting my new 3-Series (just waiting for the plates), but it appear the dealer made a mistake: they forgot the Heated Seats. When I talked to him about the possibility of retrofitting, he was not aware yet of the kit being available. I sent him the link from realoem.com: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...35&hg=52&fg=95 and he told me after that maybe it will be possible later, but they would probably deliver without, by now. Can anyone please inform me if this retrofit is actually feasible and if this is the only kit needed? Another question is, where do they put the button for switching it on/off? Will there be still room in the dash? I will have i-drive, and I was wondering if there is an option to control the seat heating through it. Can anybody with i-drive and heated seats shade some light? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, rics |

Sorry to hear about you Heated Seats. I would make the Dealer fix it and compensate you for your time and provide a loaner while you wait. To my knowledge there is no kit available and if you did find an after market one it would have to be custom fitted. The seats would have to be taken apart and run some wiring, not cheap or a good idea.

According to the accessory price list downloadable on www.bmw.de (see Original BMW Zubehör), the heated seat kit costs €305 if you have electric seats, €229.50 with standard seats. Part numbers are 61110405003 & 61110400883 respectively. Hope this helps

If they forgot the heated seats and you implicitly stated that you wanted them, you should demand a new car with heated seats. If you don't have time to wait for a new car, demand a loaner while you wait.

Thank you for the replies.
In the meantime I consulted the User's manual posted in the forum and found how the heated seats work. There is a row of buttons in the lower part of the central console for options such as PDC and Heated Seats. So I am sure there is room for the two buttons and that the retrofitting would not be nothing out of this world. Regarding taking apart the seats, I don't think it is necessary, because I believe the heating elements come standard regardless of if we buy the option or not. At least in some previous BMWs it was the case. The part number Paul mentioned is the same I found in realoem and that I forwarded to my dealer. I just was not aware of the price, but it was a good surprise to check it was far lower than I expected. Thank you once again, rics |

I am also interested to retrofit heat seats too (I know I don't need them like you guys from US, Canada or Europe) But I like to have all buttons on the lower dash
Keep us informed on the progress. |

Yes there is a kit for normal seats and sport seats
its pretty new, so most non parts people havent heard about it. I think the only part missing from the kit is the button strip that goes in the centre consol. Its not included because you must order the correct one depending on what other options you have on the car The dealers have access to the installation instuctions They have to take the leather off the seats, but this is easy since it is really a leather cover over the seats. They must then fit all the wiring and code the car for the system

BTW, I am wondering what other blank buttons for. We've got 2 heat seat buttons, 1 PDC button, 1 rear shade button. Then there are another 2. I am guessing they are for the Convertable, right? |

Thank you E90Fleet,
With your info and Paul's, I now have everything I needed to know. I will keep you posted as soon as I have some new info from my dealer. In fact, I didn't order explicitly the option for Heated Seats, but in my price list, they come as standard when ordering leather seats. Apparently this may not be the case for all markets and they probably missed it somehow. The error was in fact not from my dealer, but from the assembly plant in Munich. Anyway, my dealer is being very correct about it and offered to make the best to put it there. I am not looking for more compensation than just that. |

Glad to be of help. Bear in mind the prices I quoted are for Germany only. Even here in France (just next door!) my dealer consistently quotes me prices with a 15-20% increase on German prices

This document might be of interest. It's a how-to by some guy who retrofitted heated seats in the back of his 7 Series. I have had it on my hard drive for years. The photos are good but the text is a bit minimalist.
