newbie here with a 2006 650i question

I have a 2006 650i that is overheating. 50k miles garage kept always. The water pump and thermostat are working as they should and proper anti freeze level. I have replaced the temp coolant sensor at the lower hose. The fan does NOT come on as it should. There is 12v at the plug when I check it .Any suggestions would be appreciated as I hate to think about replacing the fan motor. Thanks to all

Well, I don't know those cars. but if you get power to a fan, and the fan doesn't come on... it kind of sounds like the fan.

Unless there are additional plugs or wires "telling" the fan to come on, etc. Otherwise if it's just 12V supplied on / off by something else that already made the decision the fan is needed, then there's not much else it could be.

Does the fan spin freely by hand? Could be a fan clutch if not.

Edit: Just re-read and agree with replacing the fan first. If that's not working then yeah, expect it to overheat

Is it actually overheating? Like steam venting out? Or is there a gauge that's reading high? If it's a gauge, it could be the sending unit going bad.

If it's truly overheating, then check the fan as mentioned and maybe replace the coolant cap. The cap is designed to keep the cooling system pressurized, which increases the temp at which the coolant will boil. If the system is below the designed pressure, it will overheat at a lower temp, possibly even a "normal temp"
