Lightbulb Let's Talk Beds... Specifically MATTRESSES

*If there is a similar thread already, I apologize. I did a search using keywords: Bed and Mattress. Didn't see anything. Feel free to merge.*

Sleep and Rest in general is soooooooo important to overall health! And in my house, I take it VERY seriously! (as well as quality time in said bed with my lovely wife) That being said, I change out mattresses every 7-8yrs. Just took delivery of this Serta iSeries® Profiles™ Honoree Super Pillow Top (hybrid): https://www.serta.com/buy-mattress/i...per-pillow-top
It replaces a Simmons Beautyrest hybrid (inner spring encased in memory foam). I know there will be huge fans of Tempurpedic and 'full-foam' type beds. But I prefer the feel and support of inner spring internals. Although I'm not a rough sleeper (all over the bed) I do change sleeping positions: back, side and stomach. But I do love these hybrid beds where the upper levels are memory foam and with cooling memory gel. We tried MANY brands this time around from several retailers. But this particular bed won out for overall comfort, features, warranty, ratings, and a 'VIP Rewards Program' that earns $100 annually up to 10yrs towards the purchase of our next Serta even if it's discounted or on sale by the retailer!

1 Serta® PillowSoft™ Foam
2 EverFeel™ Technology
3 Cool Action™ Dual Effects® Gel Memory Foam
4 Duet® Coil Individually Wrapped Coil-in-Coil Support System with BestEdge® Foam Encasement

And don't forget the "mattress cover/pad" to protect your investment. This one is hypo-allergenic as well.

I have a Serta Langdon. I walked into the store and said give me the hardest mattress you have. I am a stomach sleeper so I need a hard matress so my back doesn't cave in. I love it. But I am thinking about switching to a beauty rest. I've heard good things..

Been looking into new mattresses myself. Casper is suppose to be a killer mattress and a great price.

I actually sleep best on a carpeted floor w/some pillows - when I do usually pop up around 5:00-5:30 feeling great. But I do need a new mattress, department store or mattress store?

I used to have some sort of pillow top when I first made it, but then I was having a bit of insomnia and saw an infomercial for Tempur Pedic, and my house back then officially gained a new guest room . God, I frickin' miss that thing; I can feel invigoratingly well-rested with only 6 hours of sleep and my back pain from a motorcycle accident I had was almost nonexistent, and the back-cracking I have were almost enough to make me explode in pleasure.

Now, another priority of moving out of "A-ham-blah" is because the mattress they provide is so lumpy, I have to sleep a bit contorted to avoid where I can feel the springs in the mattress.

The only positive thing I can say about gaining weight is that I can sleep on my stomach, since sleeping on my back will throw it out of alignment in an hour (I used to sleep on my back or spoon if I'm not alone and the temperature is right), and sometimes I think 9 hours isn't even enough.

If you have any issues with your back.....

Its Tempur Pedic or go home. I had this bed since 2008, it has pretty much saved my life. Go to bed with back pain and wake up refreshed and ready for the morning grind!

Dept Store for me. Here's why:

JC Penney not only had the bed on sale but I also got an additional 15% off (pre labor day) and I got 2,000pts = $200 rewards bucks back for using my JCP card! That is tons of stuff for kiddos.
I essentially got a $4k+ mattress for $1,800.

I have a full foam bed and it's the best non-coil mattress ever for me.
I don't do well with pillow tops and coils.
I do remember owning a 10 inch futon mattress that was just as good or even better than my foam bed.....all sleeps were great on that, which is a much better alternative than the stupid coil beds I have now learned to hate.
Foam or futon mattress FTW.

I'm going with a Tempur-pedic for my new place. It's about time I invest in my sleep since I'm doing a good 10 hours a day of it.

I recently bought a tempurpedic but had to return it because that thing got to damn warm to sleep on. Kept waking up sweating bullets. Switched back to an inner spring and couldn't be happier.
Upon research, I was told to stick with one of the big S's. Serta, Sealy, or Sterns and Foster.
I found great comfort in either the Weston heavenly mattress or the w hotel mattress.

We've had the TP for over 10 years, but I think it's about time for new. Considering sleep number since wife wants a soft cushy mattress but I prefer rock hard. Wood Floor with a sobokawa pillow is my ideal combo.

Also thinking about adjustable beds. Got to get used to that when kids ship us to a home

Do not get a sleep number

When my youngest son was in the NICU we stayed at 2 different Ronald McDonald Houses.. One in Arizona and the other in Texas.. Sleep number must have donated beds to every single Ronald McDonald House...

They were awful.. They were noisy when u tried to fill the mattress... You could hear every room on and off through the night running the compressors.. Even the brand new one we had failed to hold air throughout the night.. Honestly.. They are fancy air mattresses. If that's what u want them Go to target and get one

For the price.. Stay with Tempurpedic..

My folks have a Sleep Number and swear by it, as do my sister and her husband. I never slept on one but they seem gimmicky.

We have one of the "S" brand mattresses, top-of-their-line at the time. It has a layer of memory foam on top. Weighs a ton; the delivery guys complained all the way up the stairs. It's a dozen years old or so. I sleep as well on it as I do on most other mattresses. It's not the mattress that wakes me up, it's the gears turning in my head.

We desperately need a new bed. Our mattress/box spring came out here with us from MA 13 years ago and it was a year or two old then. But it served as an unused guest bedroom bed for many years, so it's not as old as it sounds. Still, it's shot now. We need to move to a King. Wifey sleeps dead on the centerline of the bed, so I need more space on my side. We stayed at the Venetian in Vegas a few years ago and they had the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on. I should have investigated to see what brand it was.

it's good but for the money i think there was something better.

hopefully there's some good suggestions in here to research as i hate shopping for mattresses.

us old folks realize that you likely will spend about a third of your life in bed.

imo: invest in proper sleep, wake up fresh, make money, and have fun. rinse and repeat.

I'm long LONG overdue for a new mattress although I sleep very well on the one I haven now. Sounds like Tempur Pedic is a good choice.
