Ball Watches

Thoughts on Ball Watches? Have a buddy with a few that he is willing to sell me for much less than retail since he never wears them. I haven't been able to find a ton one way or another on them. They look like they use some pretty standard ETA movements and the tritium stuff seems pretty cool.

Go to www.Timezone.com - then in the PUBLIC FORUM do a search for BALL.

I wouldn't buy a watch just because someone is offering one at a perceived good price.

Personally I'm a little freaked about tritium - buy I probably don't know enough about it.

ETA inside and tritium lume...makes for a good functional and reliable watch that has the lume of a sport watch, and (usually) the looks of something a bit dressier. Good sartorial/situational versatility is the result. "Well below retail" is the right price to pay for any watch that has a largely unmodified ETA movement inside. They are fine products, but they don't need to be bought at full price.

If your friend is offering you a good deal and you like the watch(s), go for it, but only after checking on the WWW to see what good quality pre-owned ones are actually selling for, particularly if the seller (Tourneau, for example) offers a warranty, something your friend cannot offer. It's one thing to do and receive favors from friends, and it's good to avail oneself of a good deal when one comes along, but doing so without some benefit over buying from more traditional sellers is pointless, especially if, aside from the friend's offer, one wasn't hankering for that watch in the first place.

(FYI, the H3 tubes will need replacing somewhere around 12 years after the watch (actually the tritium) was created as that's the half life of tritium. If they aren't replaced, you'll lose the glow in the dark feature.)

All the best.

I currently have a Luminox for my tritium needs. I really want to replace it with a Ball. I think one of the Engineer II's.

Thank you all for the responses. Thinking I'm going to go ahead and pick it up.

@notime the price he has given me is more than just a perceived good price, he is one of my friends who knows he owes me a lot from things I have helped out with in the past and recognizes that he doesn't ever wear the pieces anymore.

@tony20009 I have looked around at several other sellers to compare the price that he gave me as I knew very little about the watch when the offer was first made. Given the price that was extended to me, not having a warranty isn't an issue in any way.
