Question Anything to look out for in an E60?

Hi all, I'm still doing research on my next car. I really like the E60 and my wife took a bit of a shine to it too today.

I've been doing all the research in the competitors and I gotta ask, is there anything to look out for on an E60?

Most cars have some sort of flaw that can drain your wallet. E.g, the Audi has the 7 speed gearbox that is know to have issues (except the quatto) and the Merc... well forget the Merc.

Anything on the E60 that is a know problem? Your feedback would be so helpful.

Forgot to add, 2005-06 model would be most in my budget.

Not the best forum to ask this question since this E60 section is EXTREMELY inactive.
You could try giving a visit on www.Bimmerfest.com

they never made 550s in 05 or 06 it was the 545s that were out at that time. the 550s came out in 07 i think.

I would not be looking for a 550, a 525 or 530 would suit me.

Hey bro, definately choose the 530i over the 525i...... Try to find a CPO car. You might pay a little more, but you'll get 6 year 100,000 mile warranty. Goodluck! Post pics when you get one!

My advice is an 07 530i with under 50,000 and a CPO warranty to get up to 100,000m coverage and up to 2013.
Definitely 530 over 525. It is arguably the pick of the bunch in terms of performance vs economy, longevity and running cost.

Like any car there are a few niggles, mostly electronic programming fixed with later updates, so focus on getting one still under warranty so these will be taken care of under warranty and give you some time to find whether anything is amiss.

There are many posts on rough idles and many fixes for them.
the Bimmerfest forum has more activity on the E60 section, check it out.

Thats the problemo... the ones under, what the US calls GPO warranty, cost an arm and a leg over here in OZ. My budget would be an 04-05 model at best. Or an E90 3-series 320i 06-07 (4 cylinder).
