Amazing Car Build Thread

So...for about 2 years I have been following this amazing car build thread. A girl and her father are building a Pontiac Fiero. The goal is to have this car project frame-off restoration complete so that when she is old enough to drive, she will have this project finished.

Her father started this thread to document the build for posterity - and as news/followers grew, the thread was turned over to to his daughter so she could update and document the car build.

Truly amazing read...

Ok, I read the first post and the kid wants to drive a stick. That is A1 awesome right there.

I wish her and the dad luck, sounds like an fantastic project for a father/daughter and I'm slightly jealous I'll never have an experience like that in my life.

That being said, they aren't restoring a Lambo. I can't take 40+ pages of a Fiero, but I still appreciated your post.

I get that...but a 12 YO girl telling her parents she wants to 'build' her own car...gotta love that attitude.

She does all the work...I mean ALL the work - many of the pages are focused on the challenges of the build that all car enthusiast face.

So reading this tomorrow in the dog park!

I was twelve when my father decided I should be able to drive. He gave me one lesson (on a cemetery parking lesson, five minutes). He told me he'd rather die than listen to me torturing his car ever again. Later in life he and I had a solid agreement on who will drive. In his last ten tears I was never the passenger.

My point is, that you see us blocking your lanes, destroying your drives, hopeless parkers and the destroyers of rims. Those happen because we are not seen as worthy of real lessons.

When my kids are at age, they will go through my driving school. I will probably cry more than my dad did with me, but they will not be on the road until they understand exactly what kind of power they will have.

Would love to do that one day, but I don't have a three car garage... But of course I'd choose a Volvo!

^ sends shivers (of revulsion) down my spine. One day I actually lifted (aka The Hulk) the Volvo I was working on off the ground in one corner I was so frustrated. The last day I drove that car, it left me at work (AGAIN) and I just punched the window out and got a ride. Came back to work on Monday in a new car and told my dad where he could pick up his Volvo.
