Fortunately, your opinion of the e39 is in the minority.

The cooling system on the S62 is very robust. The Tstat runs at 79C, so the whole system runs much cooler than the M62 (in addition to not being similar to the M62 cooling system). Again, in my 14+ years with the M5, I had zero issues with any of the cooling system other than replacing the Tstat (which is actually a common replacement on the S62). My E9x N52s now on the other hand...

The E39 is legendary. Such a wonderful analog car, with a real sound. A real drivers Sports Sedan. Nobody makes a car anymore like an E39 M5. All sports sedans made today chase luxury, comfort, technology, quickness and speed. The Chevrolet SS is the only car in more recent times to match the E39 M5 formula again. The S62 was a gem, and the manual transmission as the only transmission option forced the driver that they need to know how to drive a car.
If anything we need more cars like the E39 M5 again, not everyone wants a 1/4 mile mashing sports sedan packed with tech. Design a true Sports Sedan again with modern lines and performance technology that focuses on the fundamental driving experience, like making the chassis as light as possible and great steering feel. All with an engine exhaust note that can be felt and heard without the need for artificial sound enhancement. There is still a market for such a car I believe. If only there was a car company willing to go back to that fundamental formula for a mid-sized Sports Sedan.

Does such group exist? Yes, but it is clearly in the minority and the car companies don't want to bother with it. |

I would say if this guy puts it into a garage and takes care of it he will get his money back and then some. More that I would currently pay for one but prices for this car will be there before we now it. While millennial's are getting a license later and later in life. They have Uber and will have self driving cars. Those of us who had these cars or had the poster on the wall growing up have gotten older and remember how good these cars were. Furthermore they will remember how they sound and feel. now they have the money because they are older. There will absolutely still be a market for this absolutely stunning car. One of the best driving cars. Enough luxury but speed, power, noise and handling. If I had stupid money I would buy it. I will have to drive that sucker though. For me to spend that kind of money I would have a garage full of exotics. This may just be an addition to his current stable. Good buy for him. Great Car. Hope he has plenty of cars though and wants to drive it.
