There was two earlier versions (B58B30M0 & B58B30M1) that are again different. After that, Toyota had input on the engine design that lead to the B58B30C and then the current B58B30O1
so the newest iteration has more hp/tq than the previous design? what's the difference? pistons/compressions/material?

Hey if BMW won't do it, good on Toyota! They're definitely making the best out of this relationship.

I don't see the problem as BMW couldn't sell this car as their own as it would cannibalize sales of the M240i/M2. This is a smaller, lighter car with the B58 that now has transmission choices, and no big grill to whine about, so win-win.

this is the best bmw sports car available.

just sucks with the current market you need to buy them sight unseen. im not sure if im willing to take that leap of faith. Hopefully toyota improved the weird bmw shifter and clutch feel and deleted the cdv.

I never understood this as a problem. Either way the consumer would be buying a BMW(M240i/M2 or Mcoupe). Isn't that the point, keep the costumer in house. In the current scenario they are loosing a customer to Toyota.

That's why I'm in this thread. I have little hope the G8x LCI is going to bring any improvement in the looks department.

You are looking at it the wrong way as they aren't losing a customer as these cars are BMW made, rolling off the BMW assembly line and are simply sold out of a different dealer. How could it ever be bad for a BMW to be in the premium car in the showroom of Toyota dealerships all over North America reaching a demographic that may not typically frequent a BMW dealership? BMW would have never entered an agreement to make these cars if it didn't work out in their favour.

They don't show up on BMW quarterly sales data and they do not make the same profit if they were BMW brand units. BMW could easily add a fixed roof Mcoupe to the lineup, while still having a joint venture with Toyota. It would only mean more BMW sales. My guess there is some language in contract for BMW not to produce such vehicle. As far as Mcoupe cannibalizing M240i/M2 sales. I still think that is just a silly concept. Either way the customer is buying into the BMW brand and ecosystem, whether it is a M240i, M2, or Mcoupe. It is a win/win. Get the customer into BMW dealer for sales, service, and post sale Mperf parts. Theoretically BMW is a few stamped sheet metal panels and some plastic bumpers from having a Mcoupe for sale. All the chassis, supension, engine r&d is done.

it would be interesting to see the details of there deal. it had to have been profitable for both. i'm sure just the 'supra' name was a big selling point and more marketable to the younger crowd than an 'm coupe'. the guys who like m coupes are probably in the mid 30s to early 40s now.

toyota seems to be chasing the sports car scene over the last few years. But it seems they can't do it on their own.. or just don't find it profitable to go it alone. So they have a joint venture with subaru on the 86 and one with BMW for the Supra. Lotus also uses toyota engines in the evora/emira/elise for the same reason i guess.

The new blue is hot. I wonder what’s the equivalent BMW color.

I'm glad it's not a BMW product. There would be 75 badges on the thing:-) It has enough going on already. Glad they are going

I never said there shouldn't be a Supra, I just think BMW could easily could have put out a Mcoupe. Both could coexist. You can choose the one without 75 badges. I want a new clown shoe.

Glad to see the 6MT, but this car still has the worst visibility out of the cabin than any car in history. It's horrible.

Fantastic car for anyone under 5'6 though. Give the 6MT a targa top and I'd try it again, but only drive when I can take the roof off.

Visibility is not worst than the MR2, RX7,, 718 GT4, GT3 RS with roll cage, Ferrari F430….etc etc

Plenty of 6 foot+ guys sit in no problem…

For a 2 seater space is generous…go try an Alfa 4C and experience the real meaning of cramp
