My BIL poured me a head-shot of something out of a monkey's head with all these ropes hanging around. THEN he showed me the cap with the label. It was called a chocolate rum, but both of us thought vanilla was very strong. Would drink again, not knowing the price he paid.

I smoke cigars on a regular basis, have a humidor packed to the gills at the house.

Smoke a lot of Arturo Fuente, Oliva, and Romeo y Julieta

Based on price you might think this is a cheap bourbon and while there is better, for the price, this is hard to beat!

Voodoo Ranger IPA. Hoppy and bitter, just the way I like it. But 230 calories per bottle. Yikes. Can't be drinking these too often.

Bought a plain old bottle of Jack Daniels today. Figured I'd try the cheap stuff and see if it makes a good DD.

Nice rack (don't get to say that much these days). Your single malt selection could use some beefing up, but at least you made the Ketel stay at the back of the bus

Thanks! You don’t like Ketel? It’s my vodka of choice...

Over the weekend I found a new drinking buddy and another fine Irish Whiskey - - - Barr an Uisce 1803. I still like the Powers a little better, but this one continues to grow on me with the Bourbon casks imparting a slight sweet, smokey note.

Very nice, I'll have to look to see if they sell Powers up here - I don't think I've seen it.

They do however have the Barr an Uisce which is one of my favourite Irish for just the nose alone (though it is overall good, the nose is phenomenal IMO).

Though the one I am talking about is the Barr an Uisce - Wicklow Rare. Do they have that down there - if so, give it a shot.

I just bought the last bottle I could find in my entire province, so I don't expect to be seeing it again. It moved to the back of my collection so I don't drink it too quickly.

EDIT:
Ok, there is actually Powers up here - there is the Gold, and then the Signature. Obviously the Signature is the pricier one, but not sure either is the one you are drinking. Any recommendations, tried either?

While I have only tried the Powers John's Lane Whiskey, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I checked a couple of stores around here and unfortunately don't see the Powers Signature Release available at the moment.

For Barr an Uisce, the 180 is available at a few stores, but listed as limited availability, while the Wicklow Rare seems to be readily available. Thanks for the tip on the Wicklow Rare! This will be the next Irish Whiskey I pick up.

Here is what I'm able to find in my area:
Powers John's Lane Irish Whiskey (Limited Qty): Description - Single Pot Still. Matured mainly in bourbon casks and Oloroso sherry butts. An abundance of earthy aromas, leather, tobacco layers of charred wood, dark chocolate and treacle toffee. Long, smooth finish. Best Irish Whiskey in 2018 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

Powers Irish Whiskey (Gold Label): Description - Bright and heavy aromas of toasted rye, fresh butter, green pepper and warm biscuits. Starts off peppery in the mouth with notes of cardamom, green apple and spiced earth. Warm, deep finish. CHAIRMAN'S TROPHY FINALIST 92pts. - 2014 ULTIMATE SPIRITS CHALLENGE

Barr an Uisce 1803 (Limited Qty): Description - Voted top Irish whiskey by the New York Times, the 1803 is everything you want from an Irish malt whiskey. Deep and sophisticated without being obtuse or unreasonably intense. The nose is crème brulée and fresh vanilla bean. The palate is medium to full bodied with a dark spice and sweet tropical fruit. Bits of exotic aromatics keep the finish lively and lifted.

Barr an Uisce Wicklow Rare: Description - Pale gold in color. Aromas of vanilla, honey and baked fruits. Very smooth entry, then expansive with a mouth coating, oily texture. Mid palate shows a nuttiness and warmth with hints of raisin and plum. Long, clean finish with subtle marmalade notes and caramel.

Excellent, thanks. I might pick up the signature one just to try it out next. I have been getting some grief about how large my collection is getting, so time to kill a few bottles before I add to the collection. But definitely intrigued by the Powers now given it was compared to the Barr an Uisce.

And I'd love to try the 1803, unfortunately we just don't get all the same stuff up here that you guys do (but then, we also probably get a few things you don't, so it all evens out I suppose).
