X3 40d xDrive will still be offered in the G45 body. It will be more like the current 30d but with a power bump to 280hp.

expect arrival by end of year if LCI production starts July - there are significant logistics and shipping time to australia.

NA i4 NACS rollout?

ynguldyn ,

Thanks very much for the updates!

Regarding i4 M60 / i4 LCI in general, do we know yet if BMW will converting the charge port from CCS to NACS in this generation? Or will the first NACS native cars be Neue Klasse?

Forgive me, but doesn’t the current G01 X3 30d already have 286hp? So the 40d will have less hp than the current 30d?

Two things going on here: I made a mistake checking the specs of the current model, and your number is PS, not hp.

So, what actually is happening is the new 40d will have the same power output as the current 30d. But then mild hybrid blah blah, and you get the new badge.

Thank you for catching this.

The current 30d in the G01 X3 already has a mild hybrid setup and what’s less known from the current 30d is that it has 2 turbos. Some sources say it’s a detuned M40d from the pre LCI G01 X3.

Maybe they will detune it even more and compensate with a more powerful hybrid setup… or just slap a different badge on it and call it a day.

I think it’s smart they will still offer the 6 cyl diesels in the EU market.

Thanks for the constant flow of interesting news.

The iX3 (G08) for Europe is produced in China and except for the “engine” identical to the X3 (G01) looking at the interior. When in 2021, only half a year after the launch of the iX3, the X3 got a LCI, this was also the case for the iX3.

With the launch of G45 in 8-24 in Spartanburg and the plug-in hybrid G45 in South-Africa (also 8-24?), I’m curious if the iX3 will also get an interior update in line with the regular X3?

The current iX3 G08 is falling behind when it comes to range and charging speeds and besides the interior could really use an update from the DC 150KW to >200KW seen in the i4/i5/iX. Also the AC charging speed with 11KW could be improved to 22KW. Then the range of 465km WLTP could also really be improved, at least the better cw of the new G45 could help. Is there anything you can find on a possible update?
Or will the current iX3 from China continue exactly as is till mid 2025 when the Neue Klasse iX3 NA5 is launched in Hungary?

Last question: I know it’s not relevant for the US, but the X3 G45 plug-in hybrid will be produced in South-Africa and also receive an update from the current plug-in hybrid. Any details on new battery capacity? Charging speed? Will it only have AC charging or like a lot of VW Group cars get DC charging as well on the PHEV?

Are there any other plans for the Z4? EI, I don’t want to buy the manual car tomorrow if in a year they’re coming out with a full blown M variant (adding to an M4 so the differences in luxury and seating are very noticeable). If this is the last hurrah of Z4, I buy the san remo that I was given first right to refusal on.

740d is also a 30d in terms of power output.

G60/61 will also have a 40d only as well.

I think bmw is just playing with the naming scheme again before they kill the diesels altogether.

BMW X3 (G01) and iX3 (G08) was kinda special because BMW wanted to jump onto the EV train so they forced the X3 into an iX3 version without xDrive (for me kind of unacceptable for an X-Modell above X1 und X2). So they use basically the same plattform, just the names are different and so shortly after the release of the iX3 they released the facelift of the X3 and also shorty after the initial iX3 release they had to made the facelift aswell.

X3 (G45) and iX3 (neue Klasse) will be totally different from the beginning.

What i expect from the X3 PHEV is a similar battery capacity like the 5 series. Around 100 km range, same charging AC charging speed with 7,4 kW and no DC.
Maybe BMW will prove me wrong, but i do not think so.

I don’t see why they will not go with the current 40D set up which includes the mild hybrid technology. This has 340hp/700 nm. As the new 50i is rumored to get a power increase it doesn’t make sense to reduce output in the 40D version which is one of the best diesel engines build across all brands

From first drives by reviewers it seems to be the case: the G45 will probably get an upgrade to its battery, range and charging speed over the current model.

What the predictions of this thread don't say is if the "LCI2" 330e will also get these upgrades. I hope so. The 330e is a bit behind with its small current battery and charging speed. Not a good buy in 2024.

Bingo. They have released the new 3 series LCI2. The PHEV has 19.5 kWh battery and 11 kW charging speed.

YES!

Problem is... it doesn't seem to be available in North America! Which doesn't make sense to me, because it's so much better than the current version.

Usually there is a few month delay between the EU and the US release. I think they are going to release it in October or November.
By the way the 19,5 is the net capacity, the gross is 22,3.
I start to regret my order of an i4 this March. I did not want to order a PHEV because of the small battery, but they almost doubled the capacity once again. The F30 330e had net 5,7, which I own at the moment and they replaced the whole battery pack under warranty a few month ago because the battery died (too many charging cycles kills the battery) so I had concerns ordering another PHEV.
