As you may know:
- Every mesh terrain looses its flair when flying below a certain height and is just noteable as blur
- Every structure on ground become slightly unsharp at appearing because FSX supports not all shaders, roundings and so on
- The lights at the airports are everytime kinda fading, no matter how deep or sharp the adjustments of pixels are
- Depends on your taste of routings, if you are more IFR related, you would see the ground textures only at departing/arriving, if you more VFR then you have the opportunity to add some 3rd party ware to increase the dense of the ground details, but from a certain height the blur effect will occur.

I was at the early beta and later gold phase of the actual dead Combat Simulator (not CSF from MS) and one of the basics of the game was to navigate below or around 2500ft VFR with props into school and later jets at career modus and believe me, that was a hard piece of patience to identify the reference points or targets at the shooting range.
Even the increasing of the pixel factor hadnt change that, at a point the FSX runs outta details and thats it.
Im pleased with the performance and depth of the details but anybody should feel free to test and experiment with other settings and hardware.

I wouldn't consider it a monster. In size maybe.

If I'm not going to bother with OC'ing and such, I'm not a shooter game type of person, it will mostly be racing games for my new sim rig.

A 1070Ti is going to everything I need on a triple monitor setup, there is no reason to mess with water cooling is there?

Looks sick. Makes me want to upgrade my case now.
How do you like the RTX card? Was reading consistent 60fps at 4k.

Watercooling is just a niche enthusiast thing. It does help with overclocking but you're talking percent differences. It's like modifying your car. You don't have to do it but we do it because we enjoy it.

Thanks! The case market is strong right now. Lots of really nice looking options out.
Honestly, the RTX 2080 is basically a glorified 1080Ti. I don't have a 4k monitor to test this out but the 2080Ti should be better for 4k.

I'm basically playing 1440p on my predator monitor on a 1080. Contemplating if making the upgrade to 4k is worth the price given the fact the 1080 is killing whatever I currently throw at it.

Ah gotcha. I'm actually working my way up to your specs. I'm waiting on LGs 1440p 120hz panel to release in November.

Going from your Asus Predator to a 4k 60z means you'll be losing the high refresh rate. IMO, I'd rather keep the smoothness of the high refresh rate than bump the resolution.

Yea RTX hasn't convinced me yet to get rid of my 1080.

I'm using dell 1440p w/ g-sync so im still pretty good on maxing out my games.

Got invited to the AC Odyssey Project stream beta. Its very cool w/ solid internet connection. World is going all cloud based in the next few years.

I'm a hobby computer builder and build a new one about once every 2 years for fun. I built this machine about a year ago. I'm primarily a FPS player, so my rig is usually way overkill for anything I'm playing, which is currently PUBG and COD BO4.

At the heart of the machine is the Core i7 8700K..., which has shown itself to be an overclocking champion. I ultimately delidded the CPU to achieve 5.2GHZ on an AIO cooler. I've been running her at 5.0GHZ for daily use 24/7 use over the last year.

Other parts include;

EVGA GTX 1080Ti SC2 graphics card.
Creative AE5 sound card.
Corsair 16GB DDR4 3000mhz memory.
3 Samsung SSDs.
Asus ROG Maximus X Hero motherboard.
NZXT Kraken water cooler.
Fractal Designs Meshify C case
EVGA G3 850W power supply.

Here's some pics.

First things first. Time to rip apart my brand new CPU. Got my "delidding" tool, and other tools ready.

It basically acts like a guillotine. Clamp it into place, and that little metal plunger forces the lid off.

Please no damage please no damage please no damage!

Success! (I hope). Lid is off and you can see the silicon glue (black) and thermal past between the chip and heat spreader (grey).

Cleaning off all the gunk!

Clean enough for me. Time for new thermal interface material.

I'm using liquid metal. It's a mixture of gallium and indium. A pin head sized drop goes a long way.

Both halves covered. Ready to go into motherboard. I'm opting not to reseal, as the motherboard clamp has sufficient force to hold it together in the machine.

Installed into motherboard, along with memory.

Next the arduous task of just putting all the parts together. Power supply going in.

Motherboard installed into case.

SSDs installed discreetly in back of case.

CPU cooler installed, main power run.

Graphics and sound cards installed. All that's left is initial boot!

She booted first time! w00t! I was so worried about trashing a brand new CPU.

Took about 3 hours to build.

I think I hit the silicon lottery with this chip since 5.0ghz was my goal, but she easily went to 5.2ghz at only 1.4 volts! Chips that could do this were sold at a premium at silliconlottery.com. She passed CPUZ validation and cinebench..., and she only hit 70C! It looks like I have headroom to push her higher if I went with a different cooling setup.

This is her final config. It has all of the RGB stuff, but I'm not too much into that, so I set everything at a blue, except for the water cooler I have it set to rotate blue and red because I think it's cool.

Just a quick crappy vid as she's at full load at 5.2ghz, very very quiet compared to my last machine and it was at only 4.6ghz.

Very nice build, mind if add the overall cost? Man, I would never chop a CPU into halfs, even with that tool, what happened when damaging it? Warranty wouldnt cover that, aint?

Thank you.

I don't remember the exact cost, some of it was black Friday deals, but here's my list on PC parts picker to give an idea.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/JustinHEMI/builds/

If I damaged it, it would be on me. A risk I was willing to take. Warranty certainly wouldn't cover it.

This is relatively minor compared to what you had to do 20 years ago to get a machine running/over clocked. They're all mostly plug and play now.

Looks like a fun build, but if that's how much liquid metal you used, then that's too much. You said it yourself a pinhead worth, but your first picture shows way more although your second pictures is better. Hopefully, you applied some clear nail polish to the contact points just in case. I found that scraping off the old glue residue with your fingernail is the easiest method as well.

The spread on the IHS and die looks about right so he should be good.

It's fine. I spread that drop over the IHS and die. Temps are fantastic.
