Make that 31 out of 34 now.

2016 being the most known exception (Hamilton-Rosberg crash, facilitating Verstappen's first F1 victory).

Do you agree that it would have been a tight Hamilton/Russell podium battle in the final stages of the race if also Russell had gotten soft tires instead of hard tires ?

The "simulation" shown during the broadcast indicated loss of a track position for Hamilton (P4) if he also had gotten hard tires.

If we're comparing apples/apples in scenarios/situations, it just comes down to track position. If HAM were put on the hard compound, it would have been interesting but ultimately RUS would have stayed in front of HAM. Same thing if RUS were on the soft. RUS pitted first for each stint so if he were to be put on the soft instead of the hard, he likely would've created a gap before HAM would pit for the soft and I don't think he would have caught up.

Not to take anything away from HAM, but the position and finish came down to tires - the hard compound did not work on this track and this was evident with Ferrari as well with LEC on softs overtaking SAI on the hards.

The way Norris overtook Russell today, was not what you'd particularly expect from a "mediocre driver".

Currently P2 in the WDC.

Out of the last 6 F1 races, Norris was voted 5 times "Driver Of The Day": either he has a massive following voting for him or he is performing above average.

True though that McLaren seems to have improved its car more than any other team.

Mercedes finished where they should have, they definitely were not going to finish ahead of VER or NOR and Ferrari just didn't have the pace today. If Mercedes put RUS on the soft compound, I think we would have RUS P3 and HAM P4 - the finish simply came down to tire choice. RUS overtake to P1 at the start pretty much secured P3 if Mercedes put him on the soft instead of the hard. It could be argued that his overtake was as good, if not better than any other overtake during the race.

Driver of the Day is completely meaningless besides as a barometer for seeing which British driver the British fans liked more that day. Lando started on pole and was the fastest today but still lost to Max - not exactly what you would think of as Driver of the Day material. Has always been a British popularity contest and always will be. Not saying he hasn't deserved DOTD in the past but he absolutely didn't today.

Rus just doesn't have the race pace - even if he was on Softs, he can't manage tires to save his life, there was no way he would have lasted the way Ham did.

Rus isn't a #1 driver - he's a competent stop gap though.

Who knows. Mercedes have rarely been a position where they could afford to manage tires but this would have been the perfect race to see. But I still stick to my original argument that if RUS would have been on the softs, he would have built a sizable gap to HAM that potentially could have lasted for the remainder of the race. All we know is given the time and final result, RUS finished where he did because of the wrong tire choice.

The gap to Red Bull and McLaren is too big. When NOR swapped to the soft, it took little to no effort to pass HAM and then put a 7 second gap in a matter of a couple of laps. Maybe if there is a DNF, but just off of pure race pace, Mercedes isn't there - they're fighting for third with Ferrari. Right now, it seems like it's a Red Bull vs. McLaren for wins.

Only chance he has is if he resorts to his former tactic there of trying to kill the drivers in front of him.

A poll is just that, a poll, indeed. But it's no 'UK only fest':

2016-2024 (175 F1 GPs: all except for the Spa-Franchorchamps 2021 swimming pool event):
  • Netherlands: 40 times (39 x Verstappen | 1 x de Vries)
  • United Kingdom: 31 times (15 x Norris | 14 x Hamilton | 1 x Russell | 1 x Bearman)
  • Germany: 27 times (23 x Vettel | 2 x Hulkenberg | 1 x Rosberg | 1 Mick Schumacher)
  • Mexico: 14 times (14 x Perez)
  • Monaco: 14 times (14 x Leclerc)
  • Australia: 12 times (10 x Ricciardo | 2 x Piastri)
  • Spain: 12 times (6 x Alonso | 6 x Sainz jr.)
  • Finland: 10 times (5 x Bottas | 5 x Räikkönen)
  • France: 7 times (3 x Gasly | 3 x Grosjean | 1 x Ocon)
  • Thailand: 4 times (4 x Albon)
  • Canada: 1 time (1 x Stroll)
  • Denmark: 1 time (1 x Magnussen)
  • Japan: 1 time (1 x Tsunoda)
  • Russia: 1 time (1 x Kvyat)

Driver of the day for losing despite having a car as quick as Max. It’s a meaningless poll, especially because they give it out before the race is over.

Stewards had mercy on KMAG.

He's at 10 penalty points until March 9, 2025.

12 penalty points equals a race ban.

We know Rus wouldn’t have caught Lewis because he’s clearly not as talented, and on a side note, not as likable either. He blew threw his medium tires 8 laps faster than Ham did, just to prove he was “fast” probably,

The guy would eat his own face if it meant he could claim he was faster than Ham. Last season when Ham wasn’t serving as chassis test mule, he handily destroyed RUS and everyone else not in a RB. I’m not sure why we are pretending that HAM. fell off in. 4 months time and RUS just got good. He’s the same crybaby skittish driver he’s always been. The only difference now was Mercedes was trying to favor him as #1 driver when he clearly was not.

Ham was robbed and a Canada and everyone knows it, now that he babied used softs for a podium here.
