If everyone liked the same thing there'd be no need for variety.

I'm not a fan of Knob Creek, but many love it....I wouldn't call it junk, it's just not my drink. There's something for everyone.

I think Angel's envy is probably as good of a bourbon you can buy... and it's very good but definitely not my style. Any other high end bourbons worth trying? I usually drink Single Malt and love the Sherry bombs...

I've been to Bourbonfest a number of times and toured a number of distilleries. I've had Pappy 23, 18 and 12....they were ok but I didn't like them enough to dig that deep. My favourite so far has to be Jim Beam Distillers Select, not cheap at about $250 but OMG.....again, my favourite but it might not be what everyone likes.

Will try others in the future. For now I've narrowed down to Scotch and rye whiskey. Irish is pretty cool but not doing it much for me.
I use Templeton Rye for my Manhattans. Good stuff for that

Between the two I like Templeton a bit more. It has a smoother and sweeter taste which I like a lot.

On my last trip to the liquor store (most recent? hate to sound morbid) I found a Lagavulin special - the Offerman Edition 11yo. Should make for some quality social isolation time. Also got some Bulleit Barrel Proof 'cause I was almost out of the Knob Creek. Assuming they are about to shutter the entire state this weekend, so it seemed prudent to make one last run.

I was watching a video on YouTube yesterday where this couple went to a bunch of distilleries in Scotland, and Bowmore was one of them. Right now I have $700 worth of whisk(e)y bottles in my cart at Total Wine that includes: Bowmore, Highland Park, Dalmore, Bunnahabhain, Oban, Balvenie, Dalwhinnie, and Aberlour. At some point I will hit the buy button...at least for some of them. 😆

Just finished replaying it, man what an amazing game! I'm glad I replayed it, the first time was a speed run where I didn't do any of the side missions.

Sounds like you have some decisions to make! Cheers

If I had to skip some, the Bowmore, Dalmore, and Dalwhinnie would be first to go, and the Aberlour you want is the Abunadh.

This one is pretty good!
That one is good. Had that same one that I brought back from Japan one year but it was the "Masters Select" version and that one was super good. Looked for that same one again last year when I was there and couldn't find it anywhere.

You can get for 150 at total wines...so 22 biz days a month (avg) @ $5/ day for SB = $110 per month coffee, which makes up the diff!!!
Is Yamazaki that much now? I bought a bottle about a decade ago for $60ish. It was okay for that price, but no where near worth $150.

I just find it lacking any real backbone. It was a great smell, color and initial flavor, but it has almost no aftertaste or mouthfeel. I'd take HP12 or RB any day for a third of the price. For $150 I'm going Red Dot or a Middleton whiskey.
It's almost impossible to find a bottle of aged Japanese whiskey nowadays. Even in Japan it's hard to find. They stopped producing some of the well known brands and once they did everyone scooped them up and is now sold out everywhere. I was able to go to the Yamazaki distillery in Japan and I wasn't even able to buy a bottle there. Was able to buy a flight and sample the Yamazaki 18 which was probably one of the best whiskeys I've tasted. Luckily I was able to get my hands on a couple of bottles of Yamazaki 12 to bring home. Took a pic of a bottle of Yamazaki 25 I was able to find but the asking price was almost $7000 USD. Can't see spending that kind of money on a bottle of whiskey.

Thanks for that. How does the Japanese whiskey compare to the Taiwan brands like Kavalan? I've had that every time I fly EVA air and it is nice stuff.

I find this to be one of my favorite expressions of theirs. Much more subtle peat and some additional flavor comes through.

Here are some recent (last week) bourbon trail pickups and a few I can't get locally from stores (Balcones and Sagamore)

Awesome!! Cool tour too! I’d like to try Hibiki but can’t find it. Yamazaki is out of what I’d like to spend before trying it first.

It's pretty good, not Hibiki or Yamazaki good though. Came at the recommendation of my friend who lives in Japan and is a whiskey guy. Best part is that it was only $12/bottle. I actually drank one bottle and told one of my other friends who was traveling there to get me another one but he said that they discontinued that specific one and was hard to come by but he was able to find me the last bottle at one of there stores and brought it back to for me.

Those Sagamore ryes are dynamite.

I've seen nothing but praise for New Riff. That Hancock Reserve is a nice bottle, too.

I need to get my hands on some stuff from Smoke Wagon.

I've never tried Kavalan or any Taiwanese whiskey for that matter so I'm not sure how they compare to each other.

OK thanks. For comparison I find the Kavalan similar to McCallan. Very nice and not much peat.

Kavalan makes excellent whisk(e)y. But they are all really a matter of personal taste. I used to work with this woman at the Centre of Forensic Sciences, Ph.D Forensic scientist. She loved J&B.....who am I to judge.
