I don't mean to be disrespectful to Nolan or his fans but I would categorize all his movies (especially those of late) as Big, Bigger and Biggest. His next movie should be titled "Less is More". His movies are just crying out for some much needed subtleties. I mean to pay to see a movie for purely entertainment - no more no less. If I need a lesson in philosophy, I read a book at least it's free.

I went by myself to see They Shall Not Grow Old last night. I'm moved by the sheer potential of the human race. I'm equally worried for the US, fearful that a Civil War is just around the corner, waiting to ignite.

When prisoners were taken, while there was still some visible animosity among combatants, there was also a huge realization that "Gerry" wasn't really all that different than your or I. Just doing what he was told, by his politicians. I imagine many of you distinguished veterans discovered that among all but the most heinous of your adversaries?

WTF is wrong with British oral health, though? These were 16-25 yo men who had no freaking teeth. The spoke about their kit including a toothbrush, but then said that was used almost exclusively to polish their buttons . . .

The final scene of the bandoliers, whom many we had seen before. The one poor kid was so shell-shocked it was hard to watch.

The kid with the shaking right hand, walking up the path? Haunting.

As for as teeth go, we are only seeing English kids. Other nations probably had equally bad, if not worse, oral health back then.

No, it was a blonde kid with WIDE eyes, as they were waiting in the slight valley. The kid looked almost like the black lab with the eyes that everyone uses for a meme.

If you watched the after-event where the director actually went to the place to get a good idea of the color for the ground/grass. He was in the exact same location. In that follow-up, they were able to show some of the same guys from multiple scenes that you might not have caught watching the whole movie.

The kid with that shaking hand, I just couldn't decide if that was psychosomatic or maybe he got gassed.

Seeing that gas creeping across the field towards the camera, I get a shiver even now.

No kidding. Overall... As a franchise (all 3 films) my absolute favorite movies!
It hits on everything I enjoy in a film except for SciFi:
Action
Special Effects
Humor
Solid acting
Excellent story
Fantasy

Life is full of Drama. I tend not to go out of my way to watch them. I do understand and appreciate the great acting associated with Drama. But give me: Fantasy, Action, Sci-Fi for my $$$.

The Hobbit movies should have been the hobbit MOVIE, singular.

I will agree with this and will go one step further to say that The Hobbit should have been produced/released first. This isn't Star Wars or a Tarantino film.

Saw Kingdom of Heaven for the umpteen times. You can call it a Hollywood anti Iraq war movie. A bit corny but entertaining nevertheless :-). Nobody does grand scale action flicks like Ridley Scott. The guy is a master at it - not quite Stanley Kubrick in substance but equally good in scale.

Ridley Scott has made some great movies, but has some flops also.
Alien and Alien:Covenant are great examples. The Alien franchise should have stopped after Aliens.

As I said, nobody makes good movies all the time - otherwise he'd be god.

Here is one joke about Ridley Scott.

So a guy who is a Hollywood actor who died recently and was able to go to heaven. Once in heaven, he was able to reunite with his old Hollywood friends and surprisingly found out that in heaven there is also a Hollywood where dead people make movies once they got there. So he goes to a movie set and surprisingly saw Ridley Scott sitting up high in his chair directing a movie. He then turned to a fellow next to him and asked "Wait, I am pretty sure Ridley Scott not dead yet. What's he doing here?". The fellow then told him "That's not Ridley Scott. That's God pretending to be Ridley Scott."

Growing up, one of my favorite book was 1001 nights. It's basically a collection of folk tales that are mostly about life learning lessons. One of the story was about a rich kid whose father wants to give him a life lesson. At first his father would send him to work at various places but since they know he's from a rich family, they basically pay him without having him doing anything. So even got paid a lot of money, since he didn't really earn it, he would basically throw away all his money through booze and gambling. So finally, his father would send to a far away place where nobody would know him. They then would make him work as hard as possible with very little pay. One day he went home to show his father how little he made. To make a long story short, it basically tries to say you don't value something unless you really worked for it.

Well I was no rich kid, not even close. Growing up I listened to Howard Stern radio shows. One of their favorite routines was doing a review of a movie, then they would play the movie audio clips without the visual cues (of course since it's a radio show) then they would make fun of how silly how all movies sound without any visual cues.

After watching The Bourne Legacy, I got a few advises for any directors. Movies are all about visual effects. People don't care about fancy dialog with a bunch of fancy jargon that nobody cares or worse understands. The movie is full of tedious details, overlong setups, a bunch of characters doing fancy stuffs without earning them first. At the end, there finally some much needed actions but by then I no longer cared for anything.

This movie taught me this. Other than playing crooks which he's pretty good at, Edward Norton is not qualified to play any normal character. Rachel Weisz shouldn't be allowed to be in any action movies. A movie advertised as an action thriller should have plenty action scenes from the beginning and I don't want to have to wait until the last 10 minutes.
