Clearly hammy does not know who he is dealing with, he knows nothing about Max and his upbringing but sprouts endlessly about how he had to put up with various things when he was growing up.
He didn't have any real hassle on the track like for instance Lec in karts trying to ram him off the track at every opportunity.
