You can't evacuate the entire state. Inland locations will have wind impact but don't need to evacuate if in newer homes built to post-Andrew codes.

I was reading the news and a weather satellite capturing images of irma was named Suomi (Finland in Finnish). Naturally my Wikipedia addiction kicked in.

That's just a random picture (I assume. No part of the turnpike has that many lanes). A friend drove up to Orlando today and said traffic wasn't bad at all.

Thanks. I'd urge to get out (or at least to a reasonable floor - not too high nor too low). Power will be diverted for the flood pumps, elevators will be locked on the roof level since the shafts become inundated.

Yeah I've been filling Ziploc freezer bags with water and putting them in the in the freezer for the last few days so we've got some block like ice. We have had a generator that hooks up to the panel that I bought after Frances/Jean/Wilma but have never used. I started it last week and have it on a trickle charger for now. We could probably survive just fine for weeks or maybe months, but we'll probably leave after a few days if power isn't back. We actually have vacation reservations in Asheville next Thursday (coincidentally but happily).

Seems to be nudging west a bit but it will hit us all to some degree. Stay safe!

My sister and brother-in-law are south of Fort Myers and are going to ride it out. I told her to leave but they are with kids and grandkids and don't want to leave them.

I reposted that pic from someone else. Apparently, it was yesterday, but I would actually expect it would be worse today. It took one of my friends 7 hours to go from Hollywood to Orlando. The biggest problem now is gas. I drove from Miami to Tally last night. The gas lines were insane even at 12 am - 4 am. Funny thing (actually not though) I'm still in the path, and Irma is chasing me.
