Also I took the door off and realized the mirror is stuck on with double sided tape. So I'm going to get fishing line and new tape, saves me the hassle of caulk! |

little janky this time, i may or may not chop those bolts off (i dont have a tool suitable on hand) but hey, it works!
the beveled edge looks funny when the doors are closed; i thought it was just the tape but turns out theres caulk down the middle too so i left it as-is. |

Exterior sheathing complete. The roof was kind of a nightmare with the pitch being so steep. I was basically laying on the roof to screw down the CDX.

A little more progress on the cabin this weekend. Tyvek is up and we got the rear window in as well as the monster 7' wide slider. Took 4 people to lift and muscle that SOB in there. I even got a jump on the cedar out front.

Last step with the pergola was to redo the concrete wall. Could have just repainted...but this is quite ugly most of this was underground before I put the patio in. Decided to buy some cedar planks and stain the same color as the pergola. Used construction pencils for spacing.
Just needed to run some furring strips on the wall, and used a nail gun to put up the planks. No need to paint the wall black, you can't see the red through it, but did need to stain the studs. Think this looks much better. I'll add come hanging planters to the wall also thinking of these sconces that would just shine down. I know...need to weedwhack the yard. Been busy, no time for maintenance.

Ooooo, I like this thread. Bought a house in Oct of 2021, and did the "board and batten" wall in the bedroom shortly after. A few weeks ago I turned a boring old coat closet into this little drop zone, same board and batten style. About to start on some "built ins" for the living room, shooting for 12' wide and 9.5' tall.

My latest "project" has been dealing the PITA that is a hottub that the previous homeowner left for me.
Already spent 1k on a new cover since the old one was water logged and torn up. I then had an issue with the filter basket not making a good seal with the stand pipe fitting. Got that fixed with some silicone so that part is ok. Started filling it up a few weeks ago, and just as we approached about 3/4 of the way full, I hear a loud gushing.... One of the check valves on a Jet line blew apart. I capped the line just to see if she continues to hold water, and i noticed more water running out from the back side of the tub... https://preview.redd.it/rz582dpa81q9...=webp&9c795d76 https://preview.redd.it/ixe99fra81q9...=webp&d79c72af So here is what im dealing with now... a crack in the backside manifold. As much as I would love to cut it out and replace with a fresh piece... im thinking some WaterWeld and then a rubber PVC coupler around the joint will get me back in order. Or at least help me confirm that it holds water and nothing else is broken.

Easier said than done and it was in my screened in patio taking up half of it. When we redid the screen enclosure I moved it out to the backyard. Continued leaking out there, them pumps and shit started failing. Finally paid my lawn guy a couple hundred bucks and he chopped that shit up into pieces and got rid of it. Best thing I ever did. I have one of those inflatable Coleman hot tubs now and I love it! |

We’ve been here a year, and the blank wall around the TV annoyed us, and we didn’t want to hang pictures all over it. So I started making some "built ins." It'll be 11’ wide and almost 9’ tall when completed. Cabinets are prebuilt units from Lowe’s. Went with wall cabinets for the shallow depth (12” for wall vs 24” for base), middle 2 units are 36” wide, outer are 30” wide. Made a “toe plate” for the cabinets (to get them off the ground) out of some 2x4s. The tops for the cabinets, and the entire book cases, are 3/4” particle board. Cutting all of that with my circular saw sucked... The “tops” of the cabinets is doubled up particle board, so it’s 1.5” thick. That exposed edge is going to be covered with a nice stained piece of 1.5” oak trim. For the exposed edges on the bookcases and the shelves, I will be covering those with 1.5” MDF trim. Going to knock out the shelves and the trim today.
Left enough room around the TV so we can go bigger in size, currently a 65" now, should have enough room for an 80". TV will also need to be raised, so it won't look goofy being so low compared to the bookshelves, but I don't want it so high that it hurts your neck looking at it. Might add a trim piece (or a shelf or something) at the top in the middle section to fill the area up a bit and make the TV placement look better. It's all fluid and changing as I work on it. Gotta fish that cable through the wall, the little cable cover tubing thingy is driving me crazy looking at it.

https://www.amazon.com/DataComm-Elec...f_=as_li_ss_tl Only issue is that my Sanus mount allows me to pull the tv up to ~26in away from the wall and I use that once in a while, you have to make sure your cables are extra long, and not braided as I found out the hard way lol.

Made a little more progress. Got the shelves done, and added some in the middle section so the TV doesn’t look so awkward. Also decided to go a different route as far as trim goes. Gonna knock ALL the trim out over the next few days. |

A lot of yard stuff lately. Finally replaced our shed that the tornado killed. I need to build some steps and I will probably do some landscaping around it in the spring.
Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr I repainted the biergarten table. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr Built a little slide/climbing wall thing for the kiddos. We are going to eventually build a playhouse near it. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr And my dad built a 4 post lift for storing the kid cars. Untitled by Nick Wood, on Flickr |

Finally!!
What a freaking journey... When we bought this house the previous owners had a really nice hot tub installed. Unfortunately when we decided to start using it, we soon realized that we were in for a battle. The hot tub was drained but not fully which, as we started filling soon realized, left some nice cracks in various places of the plumbing. The list of stuff I had to learn and tackle - started to fill the tub...water leaked everywhere from the filter basket area... Silicone sealed to fix. - another fill, and 3/4 of the way there a jet check valve blows apart! Replaced. - manifold elbow crack...used water weld temporarily to see what other failure points we had. - started to fill again, and smaller jet lines had some cracks. -ripped out the entire manifold, replaced with new, slightly different configuration. All primered and glued. - success! Anyone who tells you to own a hot tub wants to see you suffer lol!

Got sidelined with COVID a couple weeks back which slowed my roll on the tiny cabin. Feels good to be back at it. Realized I haven't posted for a couple weeks.
Got the walls and ceiling insulated, put up maple wall paneling, got my solar powered electrical system and lights installed, and put in a cork floor. It's all coming together! |
