All I get in this kind of temperatures are seaguls, pigeons, crows and blackbirds.

In winter, it gets a little better; woodpeckers and blue jays; but thats about it.

Even picked up the audubon app for ipad to check for new species; and you gotta drive hours to "maybe" shoot a big bird.

Il bet there's lots more near you then you think, just have to figure out where to look. We get bald eagles around Ontario and other interesting birds, but you have to get away from cities a bit.

After all, Alaska is supposed to be one of the best birding places, and that's very far north.

For all the birders, if you want an interesting movie, check out "the big year". All about birding, and in my opinion, very entertaining.

I'd be surprised if there weren't eagles around Quebec. They LOVE cold weather. In fact, they'll be leaving here any day now, to get back up to Canada and Alaska. They only really like it here when there's ice on our lakes.

Lots of raptors love cool or cold weather. Now's the time to look for Great Horned Owls on their nests. Ask the birders in your area and they can probably steer you to some good big-bird sites.

Our temperature in Quebec city is not that cold; well.... not as much as alaska or as the northern Quebec can be. I am pretty close to the US border.

We get nice birds in the summer; but I never saw an eagle from my own eyes that wasnt in captivity.

Funny you should mention that. Prior to the other day, the only bald eagle I'd ever seen was in a zoo in Quebec City back in the 70's.

You might ask around. In the last month I've taken two people out that saw their first ever eagles and got decent pictures of them to boot. Both of them live within five-miles of where I showed them the eagles. Neither had any idea that they were so common and easy to see around here.

Eagles can take quite warm weather. I see them in Florida occasionally in winter.

Went on a tour of the NASA grounds in Florida, and the bald eagles were littering the telephone poles and such. I've been told the further north you go, the bigger they get.

Nice shot, but be careful with diffraction at such small apertures. It probably starts being visible at f/16, so, after that, gains in DOF are offset by softness due to diffraction.

Here's the one of many that I've read, that I think has the best illustrations. Generally, as your pixel density goes up, diffraction limits become more of a problem. So, a 7D will reach it's diffraction limit sooner than a 5D MkII or MkIII, because of it's extremely high pixel density. Nikon's new D800 isn't far behind.

It's NOT a brick wall that you hit and suddenly everything is crappy. It's more like, "the limit" is where you can start to detect diffraction with you eye if you look at 100%. It does get worse as you use a smaller and smaller aperture, so f/64 would be extreme with almost any camera/lens combination.

Try that shot at f/64, f/16 and f/8 and f/4. Focus on the very tip of the pollen. At the wider apertures, the DOF will be razor thin, but what's in focus will be super sharp. As you get around f/16 and look at 100%, you'll start to see loss of sharpness.

The problem is aggravated the most with super-teles and macro lenses at their minimum focus distances.

What lens do you have that goes to F64? That's so small!

Maybe I just don't reach the super narrow F stops to realize how high they go.... I rarely get to F16 because of optics declining, so above that is unknown territory to me.
