This is a dangerous thread jack.

Let's get back to asking questions of our erstwhile Law Enforcement colleagues.

No need. I've had this conversation 1000 times with Protestants. It's fruitless. You are in no place to judge that.

And the Bible also says we ought not to be unequally yoked (ie a believer with an unbeliever). And with respect to false prophets "that by their fruits you shall know them".

Accordingly, you must judge for yourself whether this person truly appears to be a Christian when you are looking at potential marital relationship.

Human judgement has no bearing of course on that person's actual salvation - that is between that person and Christ, in that you are correct. But we can't stick our head in the sand either and make dumb moves that will only bring pain by not exercising our God given abilities to think and reason and make a judgement call for ourselves.

All right - anything else from anybody else, send me a PM so we don't keep threadjacking. I will do my best not to reply anymore here.

With all due respect, Joekerr couldn't be more wrong about Catholics (St. Patrick's School alumni here!).
Anyone who is baptized is a Cristian, by definition. That means all Catholics.
There are many aspects of the different Christian sects that are not agreed on, such as the clergy marrying, who can receive communion, Sainthood, prayer, etc. But reading the Bible is a big part of Catholicism.
Of course there are good Christians & bad Christians, but unless the church excommunicates you, you are a Christian.
Indulgences were outlawed after the Dark Ages, and were a driving force behind the reforms of Luther (in 1517).

Everyday I see big rigs being pulled over by troopers on the highway. Assuming it isn’t for speeding, is it just for visual inspection/checking logs?

Could be lots of reasons, I never was a fan of traffic enforcement.....we had a saying about "traffic men".

Could be moving violations, equipment issues/violations to check trip logs.

Murf993 - if I were to ever be in a situation where I was coming back (or going to) a gun range with a pistol and was pulled over, would you recommend that I disclose that I have a firearm / pass the PAL with my license, or shut up until asked (if asked)?

And second followup, let's say he/she asks and I answer truthfully - am I correct in thinking that I cannot unbox a pistol on the side of the road legally speaking? In that scenario if I gave them the key to unbox, would that be legal if they did it instead?

Murf will chime but if I am pulled over with a weapon in the vehicle I would immediately inform the officer, even if its my shotgun in the trunk as I go to bust some clays.

True, but also you are American and its a little more common to travel with firearms I'd imagine no? Less so here. Especially if it is a pistol.

I'd feel like our police might be more interested than yours, and I'm not sure if the interest would be in a good way that might result in them being more lenient on the speeding charge, or less lenient and potentially I stored it unsafe or something.

I try to abide by all the gun laws, but I still remember one time where I forgot to check the chamber in the rifle for some reason - to this day, no idea why I didn't, I always had cleared it prior and after that day. Wound up boxing it up, came home, unboxed it, and for some reason I cycled the bolt and nearly shit myself when a brass came flying out. It was spent, not live, but nonetheless. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I always prove the firearms and that was one time I didn't. Burned into my memory as you can tell. Since it was spent, I wasn't technically in violation I suppose, but it was just all around stupid error on my part, and I'm afraid they catch me in some other stupid error that I didn't know about.

Even though the pistol is always trigger locked and stored in a locked case. And ammo isn't in the case when traveling.

It's an interesting question. I actually thought about this once when I was driving home from the range and I copper was following me down the road. My first blush would be to not mention it. You aren't doing anything illegal, it isn't much different than having alcohol or marijuana or a snowboard for that matter.

If we play it though, what is the upside of disclosing it? Lot's of coppers aren't really that familiar with the rules surrounding RPAL etc. so this may invite more scrutiny than it deserves. If asked if I had any weapons in the car then yes, I don't recommend lying to the police. If asked to see them I'd say they are locked and it is my understanding that they must remain that way. If he/she insist on seeing them then I would provide them with the key to the box and stand well back while they have a peek.

When we go to the range we usually take a couple of rifles and 3 handguns, we have a small SUV with tinted windows so they are all just in the back which is allowed.

The long and short of it is this. My advise to anyone being pulled over is to be polite, don't lie, and if asked something answer truthfully.

Is it considered bad etiquette to slip a Tim Horton's gift card to an officer along with your license during a traffic stop?

Did I ever post here about a former co-worker who also served as police commissioner of a tiny local city? He believes that he is the only commissioner in the country who had to *order* the city's officers to patrol at their Dunkin Donuts, because it was the seediest business in town and they all avoided it.....

So a couple of things, yes I was a cop in a major Canadian city for over 30 years, and I am one of the few who's first choice for a bean isn't Timmie and as much as most of us love it I'd suggest that you not slip a gift card to the officer with your DL.

I think you mentioned your friend once before. I will tell you that lots of coffee shops comp the cops coffee, now this is clearly against the rules Police Service Act in Ontario and it falls under the category of Gifts and Gratuities......having said that I may have had a few coffees that i didn't pay for. I frankly underhand this, cops need coffee and coffee shops want the cops coming in because this might be a surprise but some coffee shops in the wee hours attract riff raff, so having the cops coming by regularly is good to keep business drama free.

One caveat....

...My opinion is if you are carrying lawfully with a CCW, TELL ME. Why? If for any reason I see a print of a gun, get a suspicious feeling, etc. and I pull you out of the car, search you and feel a gun, you're going to have a bad day (...at least until it's all cleared up). It's not worth the inconvenience.
