I would love to have one, but my yard is not level enough for that oh well such is life. I just put my mower to the lowest setting and it don't the trick for now. 1.2" is what the lowest setting cuts at. when mowing the unlevel spots, it does get pretty close and short to the ground honestly.

I don't get the low cut lawns using those new reel mowers? Watching all those YouTube videos from Connor Ward, Ryan Knorr and others seems like alot of work and effort. Almost cutting the grass every 2 days. Looks nice but I prefer to feel 4" of thick grass between my toes when I walk across the yard. Does that 1/2" cut grass feel like walking on artificial turf?
On a side note I did get me two hydrangea trees planted this morning

Just put down some Scott Green Max as spring is officially here. Green is kinda green-yellow'ish but hopefully it will be all green within a few weeks.
Going to mulch the garden soon; probably going to have a few yards delivered to the driveway |

Personally, I have not had great luck with Scott’s products. In particular their fertilizers and weed n feed seem to lead to new / more weeds. Maybe it works better in other regions. I prefer Lesco.

Been manually raking out the dead grass (lawn mold) and some thinning of thatch. Soil temps are still around 40-ish F. Go ahead and overseed now or wait?

No. seeds need at least 60 degrees to even germinate. also, if you're going to put down pre emergent or if you already have the seeds won't germinate. good practice you got there with manual raking as that will help get air flow through the grass and allow sunlight. grass will thicken up as the season goes on and you're best to overseed in the Fall.

We slit seeded last fall and held off on pre-emergent this spring to give those seeds a chance (also in case we overseed). Thought about 2-pass aerating again as well but maybe we'll hold off until fall. Which Husq lawn tractor did you have? Was thinking of pulling the trigger on getting one to move away from a lawn cutting service. Can't decide between a JD and a Husq. Even the lower 300-series JD's use the same seemingly much maligned K46 trans.

I would definitely aerate again before the pre emergent is thrown down. I aerate in both the Spring and Fall as well as dethatch. I bought the Husqvarna YTH24V48 model and so far it's doing the job. plenty of power especially since I use all the tow attachments (aerator, dethatcher, lawn sweeper, broadcast spreader, snow plow) there's probably better tractor's out there but I bought this a couple of years ago in the middle of winter and they had a sale with $500 off https://www.lowes.com/pd/Husqvarna-Y...ely/1000368435

Yard freak here!!!! I follow a pretty simple lawn care regime recommended by the University of Minnesota Extension program. I live in Minnesota and do soil testing once a year in the spring (cost is $17 for a soil sample to be tested).
I do not fertilize in the spring. I let the grass grow tall and mow two to three times a week on the highest setting. I fertilize in late May to early June and spot spray for any weeds that may pop up. I then fertilize in mid to late August and again in late Sept to early October. I mulch my lawn clippings back into the lawn (this is good for one free fertilization a year) and one deep watering of at least an inch a week as needed. My lawn is lush and thick and I have very few weed issues and because I let it grow tall throughout the heat of the summer it tolerates the stress of the heat much better than short grass does (remember, the taller you let your grass routinely grow the deeper it will root down and will have a better water source plus it will shade out weed seeds and help prevent them from germinating). |

I'd step up from a new X300 series to a lightly used X500. You can find some pretty good ones for the same price and the X500's have the K72 trans and Kawasaki engines.

Couple roses bloomed. I'm not a rose guy, but I'm not going to get rid of them.
I did plant a bearss lime tree the other day. Put a bunch of earth worm castings in the hole for it.
