The Breitling is my favorite by far, GMT II is special occassions and refused so sick of people asking me if its a sub, bc thats all they know...

Not super into watches, howevef my younger brother who was my best friends and my business partner died in a carwreck in 2013 at only 25 years old...

He was actually in Finance longer than me, as I went to college, he went straight to the boiler rooms on LI in NY...

He had some insane watches which were stolen from his house the day he died...In fact, he was wearing his customized Brietling when the accident happened, and it magically disappeared...

(Spent hrs looking for it, as he was thrown from car and obviously I realized it couldve fallen off...)

But he had a Cartier that I know was over 40k, and then he spent at least 15k customizing it, and some other really crazy stuff...I wish I had asked him more details about them while I could.

Nonetheless, all are gorgeous watches. Let me see if I can shrink a pic of my LVC.
Is this the one they call Hulk, or is that a diff Rolex all together?

Has anyone sold a watch on their own? Curious what steps you can take to help protect yourself.

i've sold a watch once
met the buyer in person in a safe public place and received cash

purchased a used watch online once
used paypal for goods for the transaction protection

i don't know if anything has changed but don't use venmo for the transaction
i remember there being articles about people getting ripped off by venmo transfers that were fraudulent

Protect from what? Being the seller (to me) is pretty secure. A buyer, on the other hand, needs to have the item verified and authenticated. You probably should meet at a jeweler so they can authenticate/appraise the watch. That's why I would rarely consider purchasing any high-end consumer item (that I wasn't an absolute expert in - which is very little) without an evaluation by a certified expert.

I think being a seller you don't know if the money is fraudulent or not. Say someone could do a faulty wire transfer or cashiers check and it is later found to be fraudulent, wouldn't the seller be stuck holding the bag? Or if someone makes a claim that the watch wasn't as described even though it is. Tons of stuff like that so as a newbie on expensive watches, I would be a bit hesitant.

Yes. That's why cash is king. However, a wire transfer is completely safe. Every fortune-500 company does them. You can also transfer the funds at your bank. Once the money's in the bank, there is no claiming the watch/property is faulty. Once the money is yours, it's yours. Obviously, completely avoid PayPal. That's why it's good for the buyer to have the watch validated/authenticated at an authorized dealer and you can even make the cash transfer at the jewelry shop. If you can't tell if 100 Dollar bills are real, you shouldn't carry cash.

i guess it was around $75k

it used to sit in the case and was not easy to sell
I feel like I've seen it for sale at the AD for like $58k when I saw one in person

am I dreaming about that $58k price or does that sound realistic?

Wow so back then pretty much all Rolexes can be found sitting in display cases. Crazy how demand has changed.

well, not the stainless steel Daytonas
but pretty much anything else
including the platona

this photo is from Sept 2017, i believe
i was in las vegas
platona just sitting in the window along with multiple other iterations of the daytona

and i know i used to see a blue dial skydweller in the display window of my local AD at the mall
but i wasn't interested in the skydweller at that time
i was just looking for my daytona

You can also consider of Zenith Chronomaster Series that looks like a Rolex Daytona comes with 42MM case as well as 1/10th seconds featuring movement .
It wouldn't be same hype as Rolex but trust me it also looks nice ,and much easier to find .I don't remember its price but must be less than 10K too

I looked up the Zenith. Looks fantastic! Don’t know much about the brand though. How is it compared to Omega, Rolex, JLC?
