Wonderful pose and background.
I pulled up to one today, on a fence post, ten-feet from my car window. It startled both of us, but it didn't fly immediately. As I did start to reposition, it flew. Couldn't filled the frame of my iPhone, if I'd had my wits.

Wow! Very nice.
I got nothing nearly so good yesterday, but I did find a great spot to hang out and hope for action like that: Eagles' Nest With A View by David Stephens, on Flickr

Picked up a new lens last week - Voigtlander Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm f/2. Here is an evening test shot at the Santa Clara train station platform at f/2 with close focus to check out the rendering, bokeh and background fall off.

I like what I see so far. A super sharp, well corrected, manual focus, all around lens that is fun and easy to use. A bit heavy, and while decent for Macro's and portraits, the 65mm length is a bit long for many landscapes, which is why I bought the lens. Great sun/light stars as you can see from this night time view of the Santa Clara police office.

I couldn't find any CA at that size image. I've got Sony's FE 85mm f/1.4 GM, which has incredible IQ, but I find it limiting for landscapes, where I'm much more likely to grab the 12-24/f4 G or 24-105/f4 G OSS. 65mm is even more of a "tweener" for me, where I'd want longer for portraits or considerably shorter for landscapes.

The 100-400 is still the only Sony lens I own. I use my more rounded out Fuji kit for landscapes.

As you know, I went whole cloth from Canon to Sony, so my new bag is full of nothing but incredible G and GM Sony glass. LOVE IT! Dave

Just got back from a week exploring the coast of Maine. This boat was beached at Orr's Island.

Sorry 'bout the dust spots. There's no excuse, except I got lazy and didn't remove them in RAW conversion.

The best phto from this year's Alpine ski season: Verbier in Switzerland from about 5 Kms away on adjacent peak. Canon Mk.2 100-400mm L-II zoom on Canon EoS 5D Mk.III hand-held. Very impressed with the detail, given I was at max zoom and holding it in my hands ....
For ski buffs this is the middle third of a continuous piste running from 2727m (8,947ft) down to the end at 1756m (5,751ft) - a 971m (3,186) vertical drop. Great fun, whether newbie or pro.
