Not til a break during school probably

I'm heading to Toledo this weekend for autocrossing (go figure) and then back here in Dayton. Dad is picking up the car on the 21st (when he is on his way back from SLU) and it's going into storage.

No where near as good as Daves but he has helped.
Annas hummingbird, taken after the fly.
The last one I like only because of the silhouette.

Nice Kevin.

Now you need some with a nice BG and the sun behind you. You have good focus and nice stop-action.

I think I might just get some more feeders, a male will hide in the guava tree and run all the others off. He's a pimp.
Unless I fix the backyard I'll not get them front lit unless I make a fake backdrop. The feeder is on my porch which faces West.

I bet if you go sit in the sun and sit still, they'll come to the feeder and you'll have the sun at you back. You won't have to wait more than 15-minutes. You might try setting up some branches out of the guava tree, near the feeder, so they can rest there. Then you could get shots of them off the feeder and a more natural look.

Yes, they're very territorial. Half the time I find them in the wild by hearing them first, doing their territorial dive-bomb patterns. A good birder can tell you the species by merely seeing their pattern. (I can't, but I've got a book with the various patterns).

They are very used to us,we come regularly within 5' of them. They always sit in the guava branches but my house is too close and you would be able to make out it easily in the background if I shot with the sun at my back.
One time there was an Allens out there and I will never forget how that one sounded.

Unfortunately Kyle, I don't know much about Nikon lenses... but I'm sure someone else who uses Nikon can chime in?

What I do know is that the 2nd lens is pricier because it has image-stabilization built-in. If you are using a tripod, then the former would suffice. If not, then IS/VR makes a huge difference. Also, if you're shooting something fast moving, you'll want a fast lens, and I'm not sure f/4.5-5.6 will be fast enough.

The next couple weeks should be interesting Kevin. I'm actually curious to see what Nikon comes out with, more so than Canon. The D3 is a phenomenal camera, and I'm wondering what they will do to make it even better. The 1D line has its work cut out to catch up and exceed the D4.

That being said, the 5D3 needs to have better AF than the 7D, imo. Nikon is killing us with their superior low-light focusing. Personally, from everything I've seen, I'd still choose a 5D2 over a D700, but once the D700 replacement comes around, who knows?

With Canon a lot of things are up in the air... how are they going to merge the 1D and 1Ds lines? Are any 5D3 upgrades going to be largely in the video part?

Interesting for sure. I've been thinking of selling my D3 to get the new 1D as long as video is not crippled. I don't use my D3 nearly as much as I do a (rented) 5D2 for video. So if I can kill two birds with one stone, it would be financially advantageous for me to "switch." As long as, the 1D feels as good in my hands in photo-mode as my D3 does. That's the real deal breaker for me. The D3 just feels right. Canon cameras, to me, do not (speaking in terms of photography, not video). I've never held a 1D though.

Since this is a BMW forum, I can bash Nikon ;-)
I know nothing about Nikon but that they cost a bit more than Canon. So they are killing me with pricing and yes, low light.
The 1D line might merge or become the 15D line? Check out Canon rumors for the AF,ISO, pixel and video tweaks in line.

rumors are rumors. Canon isn't releasing any specs beforehand. I have a feeling that Canon will increase the MPs, hopefully a slightly better ISO, and better AF. Beyond that, it's anyone's guess. The dSLR video stuff is gonna be interesting though. I heard RED is released an EF mount soon. Too bad it's still gonna cost an arm and a leg.

Is it though? Wasn't the point of RED to bring down price-points for more amateur film producers? Like indie films, etc.

Granted they are now killing on the hollywood blockbuster movies too, since they are so "affordable" compared to other high-end cameras.
