We drove out from Denver to Pismo Beach for Thanksgiving.
My wife decided to bring a couple of bottles with. R.

Once a year I'm given a 50% off any one bottle promo at my favorite vino store. This was my selection. My first ever bottle from Morgado. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.

Happy Thanksgiving friends. Cheers to all! I just opened this for later. It was very robust on the nose when I pulled the cork. I’m sure it will mellow over the next couple hours.

So. The Minister of War & Finance and I got back from our road trip from Denver to Paso Robles and return.
We visited/tasted at four wineries with another couple while we were there. The general consensus between the four of us in in order of excellence was Adelaida, Tablas Creek, Linne Calado and Alta Colina (although it was generally agreed upon that the last two could have been flipped 3-4 or 4-3). They were all *amazing*, but...... if you're in the Paso Robles area, I'd really, *really* recommend Adelaida. We did a food pairing with their Reserve wines tasting and it was pretty mind-blowing-- I'm not remotely as much into wine as the other three are, but damn, do they make good wine. You can't go wrong with any of the four, but the we all agreed that Adelaida was something special. And? The prices were significantly better than Napa for comparable wines. My wife says that if you're going to Paso, you want to go west of 101 and north of 46 for the best wines-- i.e. the NW portion of the Paso vineyards. R. PS: Ignore the bottles of Realm in the picture-- our friends brought my wife's last Realm order with them when they drove down from Napa.

Every winery we visited all told us the same thing - that Paso Robles was beginning to surpass Napa in wine quality and output. After our visit, we could believe it. Thanks for the tip on Adelaida - I'm going to get some. We just bought a new wine cooler for our collection and it still has some empty spots (PS Ignore the temp settings - I was calibrating the dual zones to an accurate thermometer and each zone is now set appropriately.) |

Very nice! It's a slippery slope, to paraphrase the movie Jaws, you're gonna need a bigger cooler! I already have mine filled and a smaller 50 bottle cooler at my bar for more daily drinking wine...

They're never big enough. When I was still "collecting", I ended up with a walk-in unit that was supposed to hold 360 bottles. I stuffed a lot more than that in there without finding what I wanted being inconvenient.

Today was a good day. I received 9 bottles from Tor. The cool thing is, I had forgotten (again) that I had ordered 3 Oakville Cab last spring. They had been waiting on a weather window. It was like getting 3 great bottles for free. We wasted no time opening one of the “freebies”. It is silky smooth, and lingers well after your sip.
The other six bottles, 2019 Chasing Windmills, are also from Tor, but grapes grown in Paso Robles. That order I remember placing in May. I had been waiting on the 2019 so long that the 2021 Chasing Windmills has been released, and I’m receiving 6 of those tomorrow. And it’s not even my birthday… Last edited by hubbahubba; 12-01-2023 at 09:27 AM.. |

Hello everyone..I am looking for a specific wine my wife discovered when we were out to dinner this past Saturday.
Bella Union by Far Niente - 2018 Would love to snag a case and have it delivered. I have looked locally at a few places and didn't have any luck. Thanks!

Today’s delivery. In theory I receive my AXR next week, and then I’ll be done for a while.

Belated Thanksgiving Day list (all in Asheville):
Monday: 2015 Robert Foley cabernet (with cheese in condo) - last bottle, really enjoy this wine but harder to find Thanksgiving: 2018 Realm Houyi Vineyard - drank way early but thoroughly enjoyed; one of the lightest most mellow Cabernet’s (Ruth’s Chris) Friday: 2019 Sena - first bottle of 4 purchased. Good but not as good as 2018 or 2015. (Curate) Saturday: 2016 Mayacamas cabernet - excellent wine, second bottle out of 4 purchased (and only one of the week of which I snapped of picture at Limones). Going to stash the last 2 for a while longer. Also have 3 2018s in the wine fridge and 4 2019s getting delivered next week. We don’t normally drink 4 bottles / week between the 2 of us but we had a great week.

Catching up on a couple. The Orleto is by Aia Vecchia. It’s definitely an easy drinker. It really isn’t special in any way, but a solid red. Last night we opened the 2019 Chasing Windmills. It’s very nice.

Allegedly, I have 4 bottles of Scarecrow 2021 M. Étain Cabernet Sauvignon being delivered today via Vine Vault refrigerated delivery, which I have never used for delivery before. I say “allegedly” because delivery is supposed to occur between 10 and 1, with a call from the driver in advance of delivery. It is now noon and no call yet, so we’ll see.

A little late but not bad - arrived on the right day.
What does everyone do with the paper wrappers when you get them? I usually throw the paper wrapper away to see the bottle and because I think the wrapped can lead to mold on the labels when stored in the wine fridge.
