Whoa!! Car Wash is one of my favourite films too - I've watched it toooo many times and now that it's top of mind, I'll probably give it another watch this Christmas/New Year period. Thanks for the reminder - and remember... "the fly flies again!"

And Dolemite! Hot damn. I grew up in London during the 70s/80s and my dad had so many of these American films on VHS. Absolutely loved watching them - especially the ones we weren't supposed to watch (due to too much titties and ass) when my parents were out lol.

The Matrix Resurrections: I've just uploaded it to my Plex server. Heard it's a tad confusing, but I liked the prior Matrix films, so will give this a watch over the next day or so, too.

Dolemite 1 & 2 are favs of mine. So many great tag lines, too!

Saw Matrix 4 last night. Although somewhat expected, I found it to be odd oberall and full of fan service from the first 3 movies. Not horrible and didn't feel as long as it was, but definitely felt like it hopped too much and had a lot of dead ends w/ some if it. Worth a watch if expectations are tempered appropriately.

A friend of a friend saw it and wasn't impressed. Like with say Jaws and Alien the first ones are good then the second one follow ons okay only to fall rock bottom after that with the plots.

My initial rating was 6.5

The I thought about it for a bit and ended up on a 4 - So don`t think about it

What pissed me off the most was they mention a better movie concept in the movie...

Extremely disappointed in this movie, it felt forced, and I didn't like all the parody. I loved the trilogy, and making so many obvious/contrived/comical references to it didn't work for me. In the absence of all that, there wasn't a great storyline either (IMO), so the movie fell flat.

I wish they would have really put some thought into it, like Bladerunner 2049, which was/is an instant classic IMO.

SPOILERS:

This was the frustrating part, they had a great concept: is Mr Anderson insane or not, but once they went onto the reveal of which we all knew the answer, it was very underwhelming and the action was quite bad, I daresay, even for explosion-loving braindead violence/action fans.

I guess we're gonna see another sequel.

6/10 for me.
ya I agree but rember they can't force actors to join the film.

True, but I would've though it was a matter of the actors being rejected instead of them staunchly not wanting to appear in #4.

Same. Made it about 20-30 mins in and gave up. Don’t see myself going back to finish it either.

I actually enjoyed it. While it's nowhere near as good or stylish as the original, I was still entertained. It had a great premise in the beginning and I agree that sort of got flushed down the drain... and I was hoping for some new ground breaking special effects especially after 20 years of advancement, but despite all its faults I still found it enjoyable to watch.

But neither this, nor either of the other 2 sequels successfully captured the mystique, intrigue and style of the original. Such iconic moments like agent Smith dodging bullets only to find trinity holding a gun up to his head and saying "dodge this". That sort of style has been missing since that original.

It wasn't Smith but one of the other 2 agents.

To be doing Kung Fu moves Reeves is getting a little long in the tooth at age 55-56 (age at filming). I read that Reeves had injured his neck prior to filming so I winder if the action sequences were just them working around it.

The Matrix was in no way expected to be a trilogy. Hollywood and $$$ got involved.

Wow where to start...I got through 45m before I turned if off in degust. Tried it again and finally finished it. There were some cool scenes, but over all it felt...weak, forced, and unbelievable.

The whole 'we solved bullet time and now use it against you' stupid.

The whole 'you create energy when you two are together under stress and we harvest it' stupid.

The whole Niobe plot line was so off. She is now old as fuck, says she never believed in Neo. Yet, and they cover this, she gave him her ship yet she and faced court martial yet she did not believe in him? She ends up making the exactly same mistakes her boyfriend did in the 3rd movie by being an idiot hard ass. How did she not believe Neo was the one when the machines would have clearly stated what Neo did. How else are some of them at peace with the humans? Nope had nothing to do with Neo flying off and all the god damn symbolism at the end of the 3rd movie that you put in Lana. She did not go looking for their bodies? The hero's of civilization? Didn't ask the Machines? Nothing? There are so many plot holes left and right. Her lesbian lover felt pushed and added nothing to the movie or maybe that was her BF from 3 who has transitioned from M to F?

NPH could have been AWESOME as an evil villain. He ended up being meh. Not nearly and cold and calculating as expected with that name.

The whole story is those two together create so much power in the real world they Machines must harness it and that the Matrix is really a love story...is nice? I guess nuclear power does not work without sunlight? That was always a plot hole from day 1. It would make more sense if the people were used for computing power and energy or something but I digress.

As someone who watched the 1st 3 in the theaters, read the comics, watched the Animatrix, owned the DVDs, etc. This movie is a MASSIVE fan let down and I expect on IMDB to be under 5 stars after all is said and done: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10838180/

Oh a the new Morpheus sucked ass. The new smith was just...pathetic. We go from bad ass Hugo agent smith to preppy trust fund baby who everyone wants to punch in his douchey mouth?

Please next time, new writers, new directors, and a new plot. Make a prequel FFS. Explore some other area of the world or the Matrix or both. Do not let the sisters make any more movies!!!

I actually thought the plot itself was brilliant. It was just told really poorly. And they packed in WAY too many thematic elements into a 2 hour window. And there was a lot of lazy directing which you captured in some of your examples.

I agree... I think someone else needs to direct it. And a prequel would be amazing.

They're expecting way too much of the audience with all those themes. Simplify the story, focus on 1-2 thematic elements instead of like.... 10, fix some of the lazy directing and weak attempts at filling plot holes, and give us action that actually feels like it's had 20 years of technological advancement over the original movie - and I think we'd have an awesome movie.

As i understand it, that was the original idea. Our brains were used as a network but hollywood decided joe public wouldn`t get it so they changed it to battery.

No idea but doubtful as how would that make sense? You should ask ppl like Torgus who's really invested in this, I only have some basic knowledge.

Ah, that would explain it but it's still a big letdown, as all Neo basically did was 'jazz hands' the whole film haha.

TY, and damn, lots of good pts! That Niobe one was a head-scratcher, I was already confused about her ambivalence towards Neo to be put off by the bad makeup (didn't even realize it was the same actress, what's the pt if can't even recognize it's the same person?).

NPH looked the part/aged nicely for this role, could've been more. The Smith and Morpheus ones, ugh, yep, horrible.

Why didn't the other W sibling take part (at least as director)?

I'd rather see a sequel than a prequel though.

I watched it on HBO Max the day it became available (12/22).

Uhm...it was terrible, the only Matrix that was great was the 1st one.

This one, was a huge steaming pile of sh*t.

So poorly written, so poorly presented....

Cheers,
Merlin
