My saab does it in 7.2, Tiguan must weigh a lot more than I think.

Trust me it's brutal. Once I put a few of the kids in it, I felt like I was driving an 80's Civic. It's also the power delivery. Not very confidence inspiring when trying to merge onto a highway and it takes 15 seconds just to get to average travelling speed with the rest of the pack.

The answer to the OP is still a RAV 4 or a CRV.

So same engine config as my Saab.

Saab 210 HP/ 300Nm Torque / 1490KG
Tiguan 184 HP / 300Nm Torque / 1727 KG

How on earth is the Tiguan so slow given the Saab has an acient 5 spd auto?

No idea. It's slow though, very slow.

YOu're making me feel better about just dropping $5K to refresh a 16 year old beater (tyres/brakes/suspension/battery/few cosmetic issues).

It has 30hp less and 200kg more?

Also, normal.people aren't full throttle all the time. You buy a more.powerful.vehicle.sonthat at 15-20% throttle it actually moves around.

You wouldn't think that adds 2 seconds to the 0-60 given the similar torque number but it clearly does!

Those are not cars to get at all... Unless you just need a commuter and like cars that are higher off the ground.
Next step up is Mazda/VW. I just cannot get past the insane prices for BMW/Mercedes for what will be a beaten family vehicle. I'd be looking around for a recently off lease mildly used one maybe, executive driven, CPO etc.

I used to clean cars underneath one of the big bank buildings, one particular MB R63, obviously C-Suite owner, barely broken in still haunts my worst nightmares. Imagine ice cream that's been sitting on carpet for God knows how long, bags of open crackers and candy sitting underneath seats, crumbs EVERYWHERE. Floor mats that looks to have been dragged through 6 foot of mud before baking in the sun for a few days.

Cars get 'beaten' because their owners are slobs or just don't give a f**k for its someone else's problem

Not sure how the X3 is too small and how cars get "beaten" because you're not the only one driving in it.
Women in general are messy with cars, then kids add another level of mess. But primarily here it is weather, the salt, mud, slush, snow etc creates an inevitable mess. It's very hard to keep the family DD hauler pristine.
