People are always talking about how they'll be ____ age when the kids are finally 18 and out of the house.
If having kids is more of a punishment sentence, then just don't have them. Mankind will push on without you. |

I was 24 when I had my first. I'll be 45 when my last one moves out of the house and 50 by the time I'm done paying for college. Why did I have kids so early? So I can retire early and laugh at my friends who are still paying for college up until their retirement age of 62. I don't think I know anyone in the Boston area who had kids before they turned 30. The norm here for the first kid is mid 30's.

I'm thinking about the kid. If my kid enjoys cars as much as I do, then it won't be a problem since I predict I will still be able to do that. But if the kid likes excessive outdoor activities, I may need to be on the bench Regarding the 18 and out of the house, that's not necessarily true - if he stays locally, I would gladly let him stay at home so he has an easier time to save up for a house early into his professional career. Nothing beats that.

Early in our relationship, when we were dating, the wife and I saw 'great parents' in each other. As time (and careers) developed - children never became a priority. Our lifestyle now is simply not conducive to children. Don't get me wrong - her brother has 2 AMAZING kids that I dearly love, and spend as much time as I can with them. |

same boat as this guy^^^^, Im a fireman and its very family oriented and the dudes who had kids young take 6 vacations a year and I always look at the guys in their late 30s early 40s who have a 3 year and think to myself my oldest will be 14 at his age. it was hard for me at 26...really hard but it gets better and I cant wait to laugh at all my other buddies when my kids are 10-6 and they are going through the infant stage. Being the first out of my circle of friends made it hard too. i could never imagine having kids at 40, The toll an infant/toddler takes and your mind and body..... I also want to be young youthful dad that can play all the sports and do crazy stuff with the kidos (cliff jumping ect). I had a great job and she finshed her DR. after number 1 (smart girl) the wife and I find time to go to miami, vegas every year with out the kids. They always talk about the cost of college but no one warned me about the 2k a month in daycare/ preschool..(you only get to write off 5k total to boot)

I just meant we work all the time, kids would be left on their own - or raised by a nanny... I will say, when we want to take a quick trip or even extended vaca....I get my neighbor to feed the animals and we just go.... |

I would rather be like the childless, more well-off individuals on this forum, to whom I shall strive to emulate in the future.

Twixboy - not judging, simply offering a different perspective.
I can offer that people who meet me and learn that we don't have children ask, "do you have a medical condition or reason for not having children?" It is weird how many people ask us 'why' we did not have children...like I walk around asking people who have children the same question |
