I always carry a Ka-bar with me in the woods out of habit. Its a great utility knife, and worst case scenario, a last resort weapon. I would try using spray, evasion and other tactics though before I get that close to a bear. These fuckers have long ass nails (4 to 6 inches) that can shred you.

yeah their fur and fat gives them a ton of protection and padding to protect them from bullets.
True. They stopped using 30 carbine ammo, pistol ammo, in the military after the Korean War because at distance GIs were reporting it would bounce off the heavy einter costs of the chinese. Imagine how much tougher a bearskin is than a winter coat. Even after it penetrates the coat, it still needs to get deep through the muscle and fat to get to something vital. And then it may be a kill shot but take days to be effective. Rifle is best way to go but a good size magnum is worth having as a smaller carry.

Reminds me of an incident I was involved in. Happened a few years ago in downtown San Jose at all places a Christmas event in the park. The event was really cool with lots of displays. Many of them were animated with music. But I remember telling myself, man...there's a lot of people here and I only see two actual police officers. The rest were auxiliary staff with no authority to carry a sidearm. Sure enough gang members showed up. A fight breaks out and shots fired. A guy in the fight gets hit by gun fire. The others in the victim's group run and scatter. One of the guys in the group shooting, chases one of the fleeing rival gang down the street tossing vendor sidewalk signs at him. The shop I was ushered everyone near the store front into the store and locked the doors. And in the distance, I heard sirens converging on the spot.

To this day, I have no idea why the San Jose police thought 2 uniformed armed officers was enough to police an event which spanned about 3 to 4 city blocks with my guess about a thousand or so attendees.

The past few pages of this thread now makes me appreciate living in the UK a little bit more, despite the fact that as a UK shooter we moan and bitch about our ever more restrictive firearms laws having had centre-fire semi-auto rifles banned 30 years ago, and handguns banned 20 years ago.......

But, someone like poor Sara is still reasonably safe to walk alone in almost any part of the UK at anytime, let alone having to contemplate open or CC for protection!

And I've made some 12 visits over to the USA during the past 30 years!!

There's the root of your problem Attracting too much attention.

Open carrying something like this may help though:

I guarantee youll be plinking cat callers from more than just 2.5 yards away

Oh shit, if you put it that way, then you need to come through the Northern Virginia area. Youll learn advanced self defense skills and master the use of handguns, rifles and shotguns

Well, you can learn them in real life situations I'm guessing, based on your previous posts.

I hope you found a decent safe though. That seems to be of utmost importance. Oh and, trigger squeeze!!

Just depends on the area you are in. New Orleans is infamous for some of the crime areas like south side of chicago or patrs of Los Angeles, etc. After Katrina, many New Orleans citizens came here to Florida and went to Texas. The crime rate here skyrocketed for a few years as s result but now its getting back to normal. In England, the population is pretty homogeneous. Its very mixed in the US. Sara being blonde small woman would stick out in nany areas down there as someone lost or where they don't belong to local criminals and be an easy target. You wouldn't find that phenomenon in England. So a gun for her is an equalizer. If guns were outlawed she'd be easy pickings as we see happening in areas with strict gun laws. But in areas that allow carry, criminals think twice.
