I dunno, a properly used (read: paid in full at the end of every billing cycle) credit card is pretty darn handy. It's a 30-day loan first of all, plus today most of them pay some sort of bonus such as cash back or points or credit at certain facilities. For a penny pincher such as myself the year end summary is totally cool too.

When I was working for Exxon manymanymany years ago, they gave everyone an Exxon credit card. The card was only good for stuff purchased at their gas stations -- but gave you 10% off that stuff. Nice! The only catch was you had to pay it off in full each month. Easily half the people I knew there failed to do that simple thing and then complained when their card was cancelled.
