I've been lurking in this thread for a LONG time and I've admired all of your photos that have been posted here. Y'all seem extremely friendly and helpful and I hope to receive honest C&C and to ultimately grow as a 'budding' photographer. This is the beginning of my journey as I just picked up a T6i and a few lenses; I aim to fit right in over time, although I know there's tons to learn I may never be on the same level, I'm going to give it my best and step up and share as much as I can only to hopefully find some knowledge shared in return.. Mostly I believe my subjects will be car shows and nature, but if you have some suggestions to get more experience behind the camera, I'm definitely open to it. (I got to play with shutter speed and some exposure with these water features on this hike, this was one of my favorites).
Let me know what y'all think! Cool Colored Falls by Shane Weinstock, on Flickr

My 7D2 is not my go to landscape camera, nor is my Sigma ultra zoom, but I had the combo with me shooting trains and I thought this was a cool scene.

Try different aspect ratios, but I think that 2:1 would work here again. Dave

I took about 100 hummingbird shots, and I don't feel comfortable sharing any of them anymore. That's freaking astonishing, I'll have to work on them.
Young Buck by Shane Weinstock C&C PS: Dave, I framed up those shots, and they made huge difference. I'm not sure if they're worthy of re-posting or the etiquette for the thread, but I've got them laying around for future use. Your advise was on point.

Stunning hummingbird shot. Really stellar.
And not to give too much credit to the gear, a D5 and an 800mm lens make for a really sweet rig.

Strange rendering of the flowers though. Might have been the harsh light. |

The deer is nicely in focus, but the fence kills it. You need to find ways to get on the same side of the fence as the deer, which probably means something else. Here's one that I just sent in to Getty: Splendid in The Grass by David Stephens, on Flickr I spend probably 12-hours per week, shooting and processing and hardly miss a chance to be out. I'll take thousands per week. I worked with a pro wildlife photographer a couple of weeks ago and he took 16,000+ shots of turkey in one morning. He had five covers on Field&Stream in the last 12-mos. Part of it is technique, but a big part is being there and taking full advantage of a subject when it presents itself. You're not shooting film anymore, so there's no real reason to hold back on taking shots, but only process the good ones. In wildlife, most of us don't do much post production. We'll do our basic Raw conversion, crop and run with it. Once in a blue moon I'll clone something out.
