My friends dad has been speeding his whole life and never got into a accident. He drives a mini van also and drives 90 MPH on a 65 zone.
I was a paramedic for 9 years. I never went to one accident that was caused by speed in of itself. Accidents are caused by folks who run red lights, follow too close, make unsafe lane changes, don't pay attention and speed can be a factor when someone is driving too fast for the conditions. If someone is driving 70 in a 55 and there is no traffic, they are not making erratic lane changes or following too close they pose no threat to anyone. Speed limits are being used as a means of revenue generation rather than for safety. If it was about safety agencies would concentrate on the behaviors that cause accidents and death. Those behaviors are much more difficult to regulate and pointing a laser or radar gun so that is why those violations are rarely given. In Arizona we have speed cameras every mile or less in some areas, the reason, balance the budget, safety did not come up until the taxpayers got upset.

Speeding is rarely the cause of accidents. My #1 wish in life, right up there with world peace and saving the environment is for the US to ditch the emphasis on speed enforcement, in favor of enforcing European-like driving characteristics. More specifically, we need to ditch the cell phones and other distractions, and most importantly, do a much better job of utilizing the passing lane for passing only. I think left lane hogs are the source of more accidents/frustration/commuting delays in this country than any source. I hate them!

I'm pretty sure you don't. Here's something offensive for you: grow the fuck up. If you managed 3 speeding tickets in 1 month and aren't considering the option of slowing down then I don't think I want to share the road with you.

You may need your license removed In Oregon, 3 tickets in 1 year = automatic 30 day license suspension.

Learn to drive smarter and you wont get caught. I have a racebike I ride on the street, often (yea, often... hehe) in triple digits, and I have had one ticket in the last 5 years. If you speed intelligently you won't get caught. As others said, keep your speed down in the straights and learn where police like to sit. You always have to be careful in small towns. By "grow up", most of us mean the above words. Everyone has to do it, but you need to be mature enough to understand that. At 18 you're bound to say "eff off" (actually, I think you may have done that in this thread already) but you won't reduce your tickets until you do as we say. Hate to be the bearer of the news that is life but...

That's normal....only 125 posts per day...consider a 24/7 day, that's about 5 an hour...interesting.

Despite all that amazingly, I am able to do everything to maximize safety while driving, like not swerving across lanes, cutting people off like a douche bag, running yellow lights, and god forbid ALWAYS USE MY TURN SIGNAL.

Trying to blame your "inner racer" is like saying "its okay as long as you don't get caught". Right so let me go rob a bank because it's all okay as long as I "don't get caught". Quit trying to shirk your responsibility of making sure the road is safe for EVERYONE. You don't own the road, learn to share it.
I like you.

Learn where and when to let it rip is my advice.

When I was a kid, I use to get booked all the time in my first car. Once 2 days apart. I had no experience, much like yourself. Now I know where and when to do it, and when I do it doesn't last long. Quick bursts and slow her down. I also know where they trap, and I do not speed in areas I'm not familiar with. Over two years with near 400HP in this car and no speeding tickets. *knocks on wood*

And you don't understand how ridiculously low the speed limits are, I just need to get use to them being more strict and be more aware of my speed.
im not gonna be the one to say slow done, but if your speeding because your running late to classes, maybe you should go to be earlier. time management is key to getting wherever you have to go without speeding. im in the military so u know us miltary people move around all the time. but believe b4 i decide to open my car up i definitely get familiar with the area. but anyways i say manage your time better and you wont be so late. and sorry to hear about your dad. oh and far as detector the v1 is good. i had the cobra one before it use to go off in the house. so i would stay away from those.
