Am I going crazy, or did the exact same train of thought doom the Titanic itself? Weak rivets, sub-par iron hull plates, leave off half the lifeboats, etc?????

what a terrible fucking way to go.
Apparently, it costs a quarter mil to ride in the ROV....you couldn't pay ME enough to ride in one those. |

An implosion would be a way better way to go than spending several days in a freezing, pitch-black sub with no food or water while waiting for your oxygen to run out.

Exactly. Per many experts, none of them felt a thing. One said they would have been dead in a couple of nanoseconds where as it takes 4 nanoseconds for your brain to register something.

From that briefing they seem to indicate it most likely imploded before the search even started. Probably when they lost communications with it. So not only was it quick, they didn't even sit around for a while thinking about what would happen. |

My brother is a career Naval Submariner and said to me there is absolutely no way he would ever set foot inside an experimental deep sea ROV, especially made with carbon fiber. As reports of concerns raised by David Lochridge comes out nobody should have been on that ROV, including the CEO and the four passengers who most likely had no clue what they were stepping into. RIP to all.

Sounds like the Navy knew about it pretty much as soon as it happened:

Reckon they lost communications first or that was the moment of implosion? I assume they were live streaming with their teams as well.

Navy claims that the suspected implosion they heard was very brief and could have been something else. It wasn't until wreckage was found that they were able to verify that the noise they heard was an implosion. Fair enough. I suspect that info was passed along but kept under wraps until more evidence was found.

There were no voice or video communications to the support ship. The Sub Brief video breaking down the design flaws and issues with the submersible had an excerpt that the CEO opted to remove audio communications because he got tired of getting pinged for status reports every 15 minutes from what I recall. The only communications was some sort of heartbeat that indicated the sub was still operational and GPS location data so they have an idea where they are in the ocean.
